More KOF news at last!! (from mmcafe) Enterbrain Inc's arcade based periodical, Arcadia Magazine has documented the new Playmore structure, which will be succeeding the former SNK. In addition, interview questions were put towards both Playmore and Eolith. They also made clear the current state of KOF 2002- scheduled for release on the MVS, licensed for development by Playmore to Eolith Co., Ltd.
Questions asked to Playmore about KOF2002
1- Will there be characters who didn't make an appearance in KOF2001?
A: Likewise to [the appearances of] new characters, it's still in discussion.
2- Are the new main characters possibly going to be K' and Kula?
A: We'll leave it to everyone's imagination for now.
3- Will Nona be the illustrator again?
(Nona: Official artist of KOF2001)
A: That's undetermined at the current stage.
4- Will Long and the executive woman make an appearance?
(NESTS Executive Woman in Ignis demo, KOF2001)
A: If everyone is anticipating on it ...
5- Will the NESTS members no longer return?
A: At the current moment, it's really undecided.
But, it would be somewhat lonely to have the main character team disappearing.
Questions asked to Eolith about KOF2002
(Interviewed: Eolith Corporate Planning & Director Choi Chil-Seok)
1- Is KOF2002 going to be developed?
A: Yes, it's been decided on.
2- How far is its development going?
A- We're still in the stage of preparation, such as requesting for resources required to start on development.
3- When will it be released?
A: It's already been 7 months since we began preparing [for development], but we can't forsee how longer it'll take to aquire the rest of the needed resources. But we'd like to release it by the fall of 2002. It will be released on the MVS, Of course.
4- Do you have interest in hardware other than the NeoGeo?
A: We have no interest in the NAOMI. Its price is still high so if we create it in our country, it would leave us at a slight disadvantage in the market's price war.
5- Will KOF2002 be developed by Brezzasoft again?
(Note: programming/deveopment of KOF2001 was done by Brezzasoft under Eolith.)
A: That is what's planned. Their company has the most knowledge and technical skills for the KOF series. Of course Eolith will be participating in the development as well.
6- Will the striker system remain in KOF2002?
A: KOF2001 was still in the Nests chapter, so we purposely left it in. We're still thinking of what to do for KOF2002, which will be going into a New chapter. There may be [game] system changes in KOF2002 since it will be a new chapter. We're thinking of many ideas, so please look forward.

Updates: 03/2/02 Good news for UK arcade fans, the Dynamic League are hosting another tournament on sunday the 17th February at the Casino Arcade (next door to Goodge Street tube station and KFC on the Northern Line) Tournament games will include KOF, Street fighter, F355, Daytona, VF4, Tekken (tag,4), Marvel vs Capcom, Capcom vs SNK etc.

The tourney should start at around 4:30 - 5pm and go on till late. If you are going make sure you take a comcorder/digi cam (if you have one) because the figting will be fast a furious!!!

Updates: 22/1/02 In a recent interview, SNK NeoGeo Hong Kong has revealed the company's plans for the year. SNK NeoGeo Hong Kong has been re-established early in January, after the closure in 1999. SNK NeoGeo Hong Kong has confirmed that the pachinko maker Playmore, has acquired all the intellectual properties of SNK, and they have re-established the game business in Korea, Japan and Hong Kong. SNK NeoGeo is planning to release 5 arcade games and at least 2 home console games this year.
The first new arcade game will be released in February, while a new fighting game will be released in May. Eolith is currently developing The King of Fighters 2002, the game is scheduled for release in September. Before the release of KOF2002, SNK will be hosting a KOF2001 tournament in Asia
Brezza Soft are also co-developing several new titles with SNK NeoGeo.
Sun Amusement will continue to publish SNK NeoGeo arcade titles in Japan, and Brezza Soft will handle the publishing business overseas.
Korean firm Mega Enterprise has acquired the rights from SNK to develop the side scrolling action game Metal Slug 4
New sequels of Garou: Mark of the Wolves and Samura Spirits are under development.
