AUTUMN

a long time ago
in a far off place
way before me
lost in time and space

there lived a colony of stiurf
twas a small star
a much smaller planet
somewhat larger than a car

the inhabitants of this state
were varied and unique
and now for the first time
you're gonna have a peek

there lived the mighty aep
small, round and the color of green
here too were the bunches of separg
round, clustered and cozy to be seen

ah, see the powerful gif
the old and wizend master
and the lordly etanargemop
try try to say that one faster

everyone knows the raep
all round good guy and oviod
look, pointing at miss hcaep
looking so juicy and unemployed

and the very popular elppa
a huge race, common as pie
see the smile on that egnaro
you know he's anything but dry

ah the lowly nikpmup
sitting there, looking seedy
and lower still mr. druog
never one less needy

coolest part of this planet
is standing back, fourteen paces
watching them come together
and laughing at the faces

THE NIGHTMARE

You're eating too much fruit my mother often said
some day you'll be full right up to your head.
I would laugh and shrug and then eat some more
stopping to have fruit between each daily chore.
A big bowl of fruit sitting there on the table
I just couldn't resist it, wasn't willing or able.

Even went to bed thinking what to have the next day
just how much fruit would be passing my way.
I drifted off to sleep with fruit on my mind
slipped into a dream of the strangest kind.
My hair was full of grapes and my ear was a fig
when I looked in the mirror, began dancing a jig.

Could go about my chores without taking a break
just reach up for a handful, it was right there to take.
The morning went well but then, oh my
birds starting diving right out of the sky
They pecked at the grapes and tore off my nose
I was covered with birds from my head to my toes.

Thrashing and flailing my arms in the night
waking up from my dream screaming in fright.
I jumped out of bed, I just had to go see
whew! in the mirror staring back was ME.
Mother was hollering for me to come down
but what she made for breakfast made me frown.

The table was full of fruit pies and cake
I said, I can't eat this there's been a mistake.
She stood there staring down at her feet
then laughed and said, you are what you eat.
She reached up and pulled some grapes from my hair
then offered them to me, was enough to share.

I told you that you eat too much fruit she said
it seems you really are full up to your head.
Had to get away, would this nightmare end
I ran down the path then around the bend.
The next thing I knew I awoke in a sweat
no more fruit for a while, on this you can bet!!!

FRUITS OF SPIRIT

The strength of a man's spirit
Is much richer than his face
As each season brings forth harvest
It is the fruits we embrace
Spring's seedlings start to blossom
Yielding summer's youthful growth
Enriching autumn's tasteful flavors
To his enrichment we do toast.

YOUR CHILDREN

I raise my glass old friend.
In my minds heart I see you,
I saw you born, a sapling,
Growing strong and tall,
I rejoiced at the miracle
Of your sweet scented blossoms,
In the autumn of your years
You bore fruit, gave birth,
Then came the men.
Armed with sharpest knives,
Lethal scythes.
Hacking your limbs,
Stealing your children.
The cycle turns,
The glass I raise
Contains the very blood
Of your own children.

BACCHUS

Where art thy roots, oh Bacchus, fed?
Methinks thy drink has gone to head.
The wine of wrath could ever pour
If from reality you forever snore.
Keep clear and clean thy fruit to mouth
Thus let fresh nectar nourish now.

The strength of life from roots doeth flow
So quickly take what's good to grow
Within you heart, within your seed
Let not the waste of fermentation breed.
With open eyes of bright light delight
Keep quick your wit, in goodness' sight.
The grape is good and pears and such
Just when they're old don't sip so much.
For in the end, life's memories
Are clearly saved within the tree
Of life and love and joy in giving
So thank good fruits for ever giving.

My lady of the castle tall
From far away I sing and call
The sweetness of the river flow'd
Beseeches thee to be so bold.
Come out and dip thy feet with mine
And eat good fruit without strong wine.
Let's spend the day in warm discourse
Before we leave without remorse.
The fruit will wither on the bush
If into love we never rush.
So walk in peace and careful be
And may the berries be very good to thee.

OL'E FRUIT FACE

Hey! Pumpkin Head
whatcha doin' there
with all those grapes hangin' in your hair

I must say
you look pretty dumb
with an earring looking like a plum

But all the fruit
that makes your face
may soon be gone without a trace

I'm getting hungry
as I see you there
I imagine the taste of your handsome pear

I talk to you
as if you hear
with that mushroom you call an ear

You're just a picture
out of reach
I can't grab you by your peach

So the point is moot
I won't eat your fruit
I can't even try it
You see painted fruits aren't on my diet

MR POTATO NOSE

Old wives say that you are what you eat
and perhaps there is truth in these.
How many fatties gorge on meat
swallowed down with plates of peas?

The self made porkers chomp their way
towards their early graves,
dug with teeth and mandibles.
King Adipose's willing slaves.

And how many of our veggie mates
Look like the runner bean
that lays upon their greaseless plates
long, lithe, lank and lean.

And here is a man who wears his fayre
for all the world to see.
He sports a wig of grapes for hair.
Cabernet Sauvignon to you and me.

And oh! what a sorry beak he has,
quite swollen tuberwise.
Shitakes for ears do take their place.
Did I mention his nose has eyes?

And yet if all this was not enough
the fellow is barrel chested.
If you or I went out like that
I'm sure we'd be arrested.

LORD OF THE HARVEST

What fruits do you grow?
Oh wizened man.
Do you spend all your time
In labor of the harvest?
Preparing the fields in the spring
Plowing rocks of dirt.
Breaking your back.
Carrying buckets of water
To thirsting seeds.
Some... who have not the power
To shower you with promise.
Do you run to and fro
Fighting weeds that threaten
To rob you of sweetest nectar?
Don't you know that where your heart is
There, will you reap your harvest?
Can't you see that in that day
You will have become
What you labor mighty to reap.
Look at yourself.
You are already heavy laden
With your harvest.

ARCIMBOLDO'S CORNUCOPIAN QUEST

Uneven tendril guise,
as amusing a mass of appealing tastes;
centering squarely on face,
and so deliciously and distinguishably placed.

Sapiens Erectus,
fruit of the vine;
Autumnal Equinox-
the berry kind!

Gentleness of human pose,
constructed,
shaped,
or sculpted
nose...

of peas and figs
that bring about a season...
a reason to dream,
like Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons."

Colorful figure
facing left,
Arcimboldo's
amazing...
Cornucopian Quest!

A chance to fall
to sum dis-guys?
No!
Here's to the apple
of his eye!

WHAT HARVEST FROM THIS LIFE?

What we have planted has grown.
What seeds laid within our deeds?
What shoots sprang from our actions?
Into what have our words blossomed?

What potential was wasted?
What gardens never grew?
What did our inactions cost us?
Into this world they never knew.

What will we leave behind?
What shape we leave this world?
What fruits remain unplucked?
As, we enter into our autumn.

What shall be reaped?
What bounty become our meal?
What wine flows from our souls?
As, to the final harvest we now go.

IMAGE

the image you send me
full of natures fruits
those of your labors
passions, desires
I see through the exterior
to the questioning
untrusting soul below
I toss the visual you send
by letting go

MARKET DAY

To market,to market mother said
To buy nuts, berries and some bread
The open air market the very best around
Right down the cobbled path is where it's found
Through the archway and around the bend
Plenty of stalls at which to spend
Hustling and bustling with things to do
Fresh fruit & veggies and arts & crafts too
People selling fresh flowers, eggs and grains
We'll have to get home before it rains
We purchased nuts, berries and some bread
Just like our dear mama had said
Heading for home before it gets dark
Back along the cobbled path and tunnel of the arch
Through the gate and up the stairs
Handing mama the goodies we spared
Arriving home again just in time
Before the rain and grandfather clock strikes five
The rest of the day spent busy as bees
Making berry pies and pots of tea
Feasting upon our delicious treats
Before off to bed to get some sleep

time to reap what's sown
to harvest all we have grown
autumn of our lives.

BEAUTY WITHIN

In days of ole there was a young man.
whose appearance was different in view.
A shock if you will I know that it can,
for this I know his story it is true.

He loved a young maiden fair,
From across the water way.
But to approach her thus he won't dare,
He admired her afar as he did every day.

He definitely knew his hair of grapes,
Would sour her view of his position.
The other fruits in different shapes,
Destroying any hope of a new disposition.

Then one morning he found her staring,
Bothered by his looks he faded back from her sight.
It was a look of friendship and caring,
He was timidly amazed of her in this light.

She went to his side and said do not fear,
Come and sit beside me and be my friend.
I ask her why she was seeing me with cheer,
Because I look for the joy of the beauty within.

SEASON OF WISDOM

Nature maturing
Colors of aging beauty
Autumn wearing it’s art
Golden yellows, burnt oranges
Greens aged to dark purples

Ripe, knowledgeable
A season of experience
Wisdom brought forth
A season of enabling force
Transforming itself, evolved

The crisp cooling air
Now rocks the land to sleep
Frost sealing it’s fate
It’s work falling from it’s veins
Harvested to maintain life

FRUIT HEAD

Fruit of the vine makes a mighty fine wine
Everything was tasting ever so fine

This nectar is of gods is what they tell me
You can make it from fruit or what ever there be

My head feels like a pumpkin swelled and full of mush
My friends they all tell me I look like a lush

I feel like hell. I look grubby and stink
I think I had fun. How much did I drink?

I swear on the bible or whatever you want
I'll be sober tomorrow if you just don't taunt

Don't tell me what happened I don't want to know
Just leave me alone I'm dying so slow

Give me a drink and a cig for my lips
It's my last request I'll take little sips

THE HARVEST OF THE NONE

So, been yearning, all your life
you've been building your own style?
As the years passed you by
they'd never smile.
So, been stupid, all the time
you've been feigning, pretty wise
as your age, has been a child
you forgot to live, willed to die.
Heard your mamma's lullaby
she'd never cry, she said
"what have you done, to your head
you'd choke your brain
you took good care
of your skull, meanwhile
you left all the inside
vegetable, disabled, you vegetate my Son
four seasoned head
was your way, to decorate
your life's plate?
The fruits, you haven't eaten, yet
the garden, you didn't harvest, yet
now it's too late
vegetation is rooting
deepening
into your pate
feels like you're dead
so you only care, of some water
of some plant food, so damn fool
I will feed you not, over rot, rotten."

PASSION'S FRUIT

Now there was once a man called Passion's Fruit
Many who knew him often said, "he's cute"
Especially when dressed in his bountiful suit
Of berries, apples, pears and a pomegranate to boot

HIS FRUITS OF LIFE

Some may think I'm ugly
Or silly as can be
But I'm only a collage of your life's reality....

The fruits of all your harvests
That you've sown throughout your life
The dreams you've stored within me
Be them full of joy or strife....

I've laid them in the open
For all the world to see
And I smile at new beginnings
I sense are soon to be....

I feel within your heart
The fruits of life you've eaten
So smile at what God gave you
For his gifts just can't be beaten

SPIRIT OF THE VINE

When summer's levy to the brim is filled
'Tis man's nature to conspire,
In raising spirits the gods once willed
To reign their mortal soul's desire.
Time will be of essence lest we bring to waste
The spirit's wrath which sun and rains have pleased,
For his power lies within a moment's taste
That flesh and mind be teased.
So, let us toast and hope he wears his wretched grin
And spares us not from hell's own paradise,
For his simple pleasure is our righteous sin
To forge the truths from secret lies.
Go on and be cursed blithe Spirit
and use the key to my soul's door
go on, reveal the secrets deep within it
before my lips can kiss the spinning floor.

LIFE IS A HARVEST

Sometimes life is like pumpkin vines
Twisting, turning and all entwined
Like grapes turning into bitter or sweet wine
Sometimes cruel and at times, Oh so kind!!

It changes like the four seasons
At some point without reasons
No matter what tragedy falls upon you or me
Life's up and downs we can never be free

Life is a harvest so face it my friend
No matter what the ups and downs one day it ends
At the end of the tunnel of death and birth
What ever happens you cant return to the first

RICHARD SIMMONS

Many a glorious sight has been seen by my eyes
But none so amazing as yesterdays surprise
See years of abuse and living in a cruel denial
Along with a poor diet had me feeling sick and vile
I hid behind words like stout, portly even rawboned
Because saying I was fat just could not be condoned
Steps were like mountains by the sound of my breath
Red faced, heart pounding, I was in the grip of death
That was when he appeared and changed my life
Making me step back and put down the fork and knife
My trips for fast food he replaced with the salad bar
Never again would I dine in the confines of my car
Fruits and vegetables became the mainstay of my meals
Because my goal in life is to one day know how thin feels
I know it's possible now because Richard Simmons I did meet
And for the first time in years I can see my feet

MR. DEBONAIR

I know that my appearance does not please thee
But never mind the fruits hanging from me
Those little yeasties that can't be seen
Are earnestly working, a fermenting team.

Intoxicating you with the fumes of long past years
Your laughter will be displayed by smiles and tears
Providing a vast assortment of all flavorful wines
Ones that you will surely enjoy as you sit and dine.

Empty bottles on the table as the evening ends
A need satisfied is the message it sends
And now that I appear really good to thee
May we both partake in other forms of glee?

DISGRACEFUL DISPLAY

Listen close and you shall hear,
a tale told of inexplicable fear.
The grapes that hang upon my head,
one for each time I wished me dead.
The leaves that are trying to show,
only proof of my stunted growth.
People laughed and called me names,
so I inserted a pea to stop the shame.
My body made of wood; it cracks...
more each time I look in mirrored glass.
If you peer inside the ripened pear,
you will find it's rotted there.
My eye; it's black and hollow,
for I never thought it paid to follow.
A fig now hangs out of my ear,
I never listened to what I didn't hear.
You may laugh at what's become of me,
but if not cautious, I fear you'll see.

FRUIT HEAD

The wine was so sweet that day
It was so amazingly refreshing
And yet the blend was quiet extraordinary
It all started out so innocently
Well let's try this
How about a touch of that
All the while
Stirring and heating it slowly
Until at that precise moment it was done
It was poured into the barrel to be seasoned
For just the right number of days
Time passed and the day came
It was to be poured and tested
The barrel was tapped and opened
And NOTHING ....
Nothing came out
So they thumped on the barrel and it sounded full
Still no wine flowed
So the decision was made
Break it open
We have to see what went wrong
We have to see what is in there
And there inside was this face
This conglomeration of ingredients
All settled firmly into this amazing arrangement
So fondly known as fruit head.

DREAMLAND

You pick yourself up and dust off the sand
It seems you have fallen into some strange land
You gaze around at the people here
Feeling wonder, excitement, perhaps even fear
As you remember the snack you had before bed
Reaching up slowly you examine your head
Sure enough, it's the cherry that had topped your treat
What is it they say? "You are what you eat"

THE MASK

With carefully placed grape-like curls
(Sure to be the envy of both boys and girls)

Properly placed perfect little hat
(Even Mr. Blackwell would like that)

Nose so regal and elegant
(Envy of many an elephant)

Beard neatly trimmed and combed
(cut with a knife, for the occasion, finely honed)

Eyes, alert, shiny, and bright
(To pierce to soul like a beam in the night)

Ears, clean, ready to pick up on each sound
(no lies will get past, so don't try it, you clown!)

Lips, ready to pass judgement with a frown or a smile
(Just truth from these, as what is demeaned a lie is like the worst bile)

The mask is completed, and the world can be faced.

But wait!

Why this mask? One wonders why hide the real face
Like a stain on an chair arm covered with lace?

Why so quick to seek something not there?
Why be so fast to pass judgements, without a care
For those who are hurt and hearts that are broken
By those cruel, unfeeling words so coldly spoken?

Could it be, there's angry heart that is hidden behind
That is cold, so hard, unfeeling for those who are smitten
By your calculated charms, words, stories, and fare
That so easily each new person completely snares.

Who made you judge and jury to pass
An unrelenting punishment on others, Mr. Mask?
Why must all meet your double standards
Of what's right for you and wrong for others?

How sad you run and hide from the good and giving.
You'll miss laughing, loving, and living
With one who accepts you with your flaws,
In your"as is" condition, even when you fall.

Put on your mask, learned charms and lines well rehearsed
It's time for your act now, one that is well-versed
Only, beware, take heed, tread carefully, friend,
For life will give unhappy you the same in the end.
