WILLOWS

how does it go?
as pure as the driven snow?
could it be any better?
put on a sweater,
gloves, shawl and coat
(so easy to emote)
step outside
open eyed

before you
a world cleansed anew
most beauteous sight
transformed overnight
whiteness of the purest purity
air crisp and nippy
breathe in, fill your lungs
a song waiting to be sung

walk amongst the willows
along the stream that follows
vivid contrast
snow against the bast
yonder, there, look, see
blue sky next to the fir trees
shadows on the ground
not a stirring, not a sound

enjoy the moment
feel the content
the rapture wont last,
before the day is past
the euphoria will deteriorate
the painting meets it's fate
as gray replaces white
no longer pure and bright
crunchy crust
no longer sensuous and robust

winter, harsh and numb
or like above, awesome
if you never felt the despair
or tasted the virginal air
of the year in demise
waiting for spring to arise
close your eyes, dream
fiercest Hell, sweetest cream
an hour's ecstasy of new snow
well worth the weeks of woe
your sweetheart's kiss
after the falls and slips

ONE KISS

Should the Gods be so kind
as to grant me but a wish
Would be for this fair lady
to give me just one kiss

The first time ever
I gazed upon her face
I knew that no other
could ever take her place

Captivated by her loveliness
from the very start
She has revived my soul
and stolen away my heart

You might think me strange
for I know not her name
But my love for her
is unconditional just the same

Dare I be so bold
as to announce my eternal love
Tell her I think of her
as my angel from above

Better to love from afar
this vision of womanly perfection
Than to feel the bitter sting
of my loves rejection

So for now I shall be content
to love her just like this
Perhaps tomorrow I will have the courage
to ask her for that kiss

WILLOWS

underneath the trees
shadows lurk
images form
quiver like a jerk

same old path
faithful trees
why does the night
haunt me?

THE TOWERING WILLOWS

The earth stands in silent beauty
white velvet covering the land
the icy pond is frozen thick
willows towering so grand.

Remembering that night we fell in love
beneath these willow trees
the draping branches were singing
as they floated with the breeze.

The day had been filled with laughter
swimming and shouting in fun
we shared quick glances and touches
while the others romped in the sun.

Dusk sent most scurrying for home
but we lingered around for a while
talking about life and other things
just watching you made me smile.

Then suddenly all the talking stopped
and you lifted up my face
our eyes met and then our lips
and I melted in your embrace.

It seems like it was just yesterday
that we shared that special night
standing here now remembering
I knew then that our love was right.

It wont be long before seasons change
and the snow will all melt away
then our family and friends will gather here
to share our wedding day.

The earth will stand in silent beauty
as you place the ring on my hand
exchanging our vows where we fell in love
beneath the willows that tower so grand.

NEW BEGINNING

The frosted virgin sheet stretched before her
Unblemished by muck
Gliding over the pure white frost
Attentively moving forward
Seeing the beauty of the flurry
She continues making her path
Times before shaded by the leafy willows
Now the stark bleakness couldn't shield her
Cloaked against the abrupt season she searches
Finding no seclusion in this open exposure
Sun rays illuminate her path
Casting shadows resembling her past
Determined she moves forward to a new season
A new beginning of conception and warmth
Embracing an infancy of each new day.

COLD WINTERS EVE

walking back through time
as I remember times past
of walks in the snow hand in hand with you
the times we camped by this stream
of times when we rode in the sleigh
how we watched our children grow and play
the snow fights that we had
or the hunting that you did
that brought such joy to your day
remember when we used to come and listen
to the animals songs..
the times I've missed and would love to bring back
standing here on this cold winters eve

SNOW DOVE

Snow Dove's long raven hair trailed softly down her back,
Soft doe skin tribal dress and moccasined feet
Almond shaped eyes with the color of brownish black.
Such a Cherokee beauty you ever want to meet.

Pulling her shawl closer to try to stay warm,
The icy wind cuts through her like a knife.
Walking in the snow that was the remains of the storm,
Proved to become a task of strife.

Crystallized patterns on the trees,
The beautiful blanket of white.
Another wonder of Mother Earth curiosities,
She stands amazed at the wonderful site.

Quietly the remaining leaves do drift,
On to the surface of the snow.
Slowly the wind takes them to lift,
As the icy wind begins to blow.

In the distance she sees her tribe's campsite,
Smoke billowing from the teepees high.
Her excitement filled her with delight,
She continued on her way home with a satisfied sigh.

THE YEAR

Oh Sorrow with your haunting touch
you're with me constantly
within your cold dry hand you clutch
my heart so painfully

He promised that he would return
when green buds graced the bough
but I have watched the green buds turn
to broad green leaves and now

They've withered in the Autumn sun
the nights turn cold and clear
the winter snows have now begun
and still he is not here

Oh Death as black as Raven's wing
is he now one you own?
does his sweet heart no longer sing
must I go on alone?

I yearn, I long to hear his voice
his words so honey sweet
and I would gladly make the choice
for death if we could meet

But is he dead or does he move
in circles beyond me
of my true love does he approve
has he discarded me?

In hooded woolen cloak she stands
tears frozen on her face
within her heart she understands
and sobs with her disgrace

She knows that he will not return
he left her here to cry
his love light does no longer burn
he left her here to die

The icy wind begins to wail
among the frozen trees
a battered figure on the trail
‘mid swirling snow she sees

He stumbles on in tattered cloak
head bent to wind onslaught
his shield is bent and battered broke
from battles he has fought

His sword arm hangs in bloodied rags
a broken lance his cane
one limping leg he slowly drags
with fever near insane

A moments doubt and then relief
floods joy through her heart
gone now is all the woe and grief
with Sorrow they depart

She's flying through the swirling snow
she rips away her cloak
to shield him from the icy blow
though not a word they spoke

His face is gaunt, eyes hollow black
his teeth are clinched in pain
she props his arm across her back
united once again

They stagger to the little hut
where she has spent a year
the bloody rags away to cut
now gone away her fear

He grips her hand, his eyes deplore
he croaked, "you own my heart,
we parted will be nevermore
I vow we'll never part"

As tears of love stream from her eyes
sweet joy fills her soul
within her heart there starts to rise
a jungle drumbeat roll

It fills her life it fills her world
it wells up from her heart
like silken banner then unfurled
proclaims they'll never part

SMALL AND WARM

The hour gets late and the wind bites my cheeks
But I stand alone,
These Great Forest Giants too, stand alone
Not knowing,
Their splendid isolation in the wind that always cheats,
And I am small,
They grow, they live, yet they are cold
and I smile because I am warm and I am
Alive.

"I WALK ALONE"

Throughout the years
I have come to believe
The beauty of solitude
Is the road destined for me.

When the wind is chilled
I cover my soul
And ponder the beauty
Of the sky and the snow.

To fill my needs
I take a peaceful walk
This time in my mind
There is no one to talk.

For I have filled my life
As many have done
Trying to fill a void
with extreme stimulation

So peace be with me
As I was on this land
Searching and seeking
Is my own command

The walk will replace
The joy in my soul
That is drained in life
And makes me whole

WEEPING WILLOW'S TEARS

Be it not on wishes my heart does beat
Be it not on broken dreams I place my feet
For though love has not found its way to my heart
I so wish of my life, love to be an important part
Be it not my desire to make no mark upon this life
Be it not my fate to be no more than someone's wife
So filled with fear and torment of this unknown
I know that to survive, my very thoughts I must disown
Woe and worries from my heart, mind and soul unto thee
Woe and worries I give unto you oh reverent tree
Gratefully and freely I now shed my oh so many fears
And now know just what causes a weeping willow's tears

SHADOWS BLEND

Walking among the trees, ground covered in snow
The path I follow is of the river's flow
So at peace here where the trees take their stand
As the sun shines down to kiss the land
It hits every tree and branch in sight
Passing along the energy of its light
Shadows cast upon the ground
Falling together without a sound
Trunks and branches all intertwined
My own separate shadow I cannot find
It seems I am one among the trees
Connected with all the light sees
As it looks down on the Earth below
Blending the shadows upon the snow

SHADOWS AND LIGHT

Many times silent the passage of life
for that which is seen stands out in the light
Hidden to us in the shadows of life
sadness, sorrows, struggles and strife

New fallen snow pristine and white
covering the ground hiding its blight
Bought by the autumn of the seasons
a blanket of moisture gives spring a reason

Not all can survive a winters cold
that which does not consider it old
Castoff the weaknesses.. of foliage and pride
nourish the strengths let wisdom not hide

For every shadow that falls upon this earth
there is a promise of dawn, daylights birth
Welcome each day and the newness it brings
forgiving, forgetting old sorrows that sting

We live in a world full of shadows and light
mere passages of seasons total our life
We choose how we live and face each transition
fit for survival a lifelong ambition

WINTER HEART

As a cold and lonely wind
pounds against her body tonight,
she is spent of all other feeling,
numb from hope's extinguishing light.

Her tears are replaced with deepening sighs
as darkness rises behind the willows...
Drawn back into solitude, she once again vows,
that her heart will no man ever know.

Unbearable pain, like a blade to her chest,
she swears never again will she feel,
and as one last tear streams silently down...
nothing remains within her to heal.

A FAIRYTALE HEART

A Princess slept on flowers gold
dreaming a future for her foretold
misty her thoughts of princes true
each night repeated of love anew

Fort nights went by without a trace
yet each dawn came for her to face
all nights to come all the same
with dreams of princes yet to name

One day a wizard came to a forest black
and found the princess, tears held back
the wizard sat by the princess dear
In her eye he saw a glistening tear

The wizard, he knew her desperate plight
of the dreams of love every night
without a word he took her hand
and the balanced tear fell upon the land

The tear lay still, like a diamond bright
then out of the sky came a beam of light
blood heart red as it pierced the drop
and nothing earthly could ever it stop

The wizard hand she no longer felt
yet a presence before her, had knelt
her eyes she opened with a start
there stood the prince of her fairytale heart

SPIRIT OF TRUTH

On this ground I stand
although no trace of footprints
and no other soul to be found
there lies a depth of compassion here
one that hasn't been foretold.

The vivid remembrance of Tee Pees
of ones threatened so long ago
Why did they feel they had to
take my home and pretend I'm not alone.
I stand here in this silent silence
and listen to the textured echoes
that once dreamed a distant dream
of each and every threshold

This remarkable land
which to one it seams
holds captive that unbroken silence
but to me, in my heart
and throughout infinity
I will always remember their acts of kindness

OUR PLACE

I keep returning to this place
Only emptiness I now face

Four trees symbolizing 4 corners of our world
For awhile I was none other, just his girl

We would sit here watching the sun set
Thinking back I have not one regret

He would hold me ever so tight
Only in these moments I felt all was alright

Things now so different, so lonely, so cold
Never before my story have I told

The snow throws off a glow of pure white
So cold reflects my lonely nights

They say time will heal all
Will time stop the nights, your name I call?

UNTITLED

There she was, a willow's down the shadow
earl adult, begging to see more.
She walked the snow, she felt soften
so soft the snow, then gentle the molder
who rose the trees, that rooting under.
...See the subject we've made from
baby kicks deep in your womb
there's no time to give at all.
Pregnant rests, the willows held her
they calmed her face, she smiles in silence
so neat the place, she nudges the whiteness.
...Toe the lull that lies along
baby's clung by your world
linking love, entire the soul.

SHADOWDANCE

Dappled shadows cast from light
Purest love shines so bright
Shadows dancing within my mind
Fleeting thoughts long left behind
Emerging sensations that can not last
From these recollections of the past
Transformative moments that emanate
Inspiring daydreams to commemorate
Of a friendship born of mutual pain
And the search within for each loss or gain
Enduring hope from this sorrow shared
Creating a solid bond when no one cared
Kindred spirits we had sought
Complete trust, no questions thought

WILLOW STAND

I stand alone among willows so grand
Admiring the beauty of their regal stand

A weeping willow is strong and proud
Yet humble and modest with its branches bowed

In summer you're arrayed in a soft mellow green
Giving comforts and shade from the sun that you screen

The message you give is subtle and faint
You give of your bounty without restraint

You're strong and tender bending with the breeze
Giving and taking surviving with ease

So much like love is this species of tree
Compliant and generous it sets itself free

Can we be?

WILLOWS

These trunks of life surround me
The sun beats down on my weary face
On this cold forgotten morning
I welcome its warmth

I feel at peace here
In the bosom of this old tree
My thoughts flow freely through the cracks
The cold wind goes unnoticed

My soul sits here unprotected
From the threats of the harsh world
It is free to emerge and
Flower into it's own bouquet

The seal on my treasure chest is broken
The untamed heart of creativity is unleashed
It burst forth like an explosion
Though the expression of my face is calm.

SIGHTS OF NEW LIFE

in a newborn's eyes
as it sees for the first time
life to unto them
it is like a opening of light

death has no meaning
a sense to this new life
open heart to all
that it sees giving it's love

like a dove flying free
from hence his eyes
he sees the light of life
fresh to him but old to our sights.
