ODE TO A STOLEN LOVE

Twas on a dark and stormy night
whilst I was away at the war
that they stole into my chamber
breaking down the door.

My true love laid upon our bed
with dreams her heart did spawn
in her sleep she could be with me
til truth came in with dawn.

The sadness at our parting
so difficult to bear
How I longed to hold her close
and kiss her golden hair.

I, shuddering with fear that night
not yet knowing why
as the thieves their bounty took
despite her pleading cries.

They carried her into the night
and traveled to their lair.
Her spirit broken forever more
she didn't even care.

When word reached camp and to my ears
of this great tragedy
I screamed with pain unto the skies
and fell upon my knees.

With all my heart and all my soul
my pledge and vow I gave
to find my Love and take her back
from those ruthless knaves.

I journeyed many days and nights
through storm and wind and rain
at times I thought I heard her cries
and knew I felt her pain.

At long last I found their lair
with their prize they thought they'd won
Took up my sword and yelled my cry
and slew them, every one.

My Love, she laid upon the ground
a beaten helpless soul
I took her up into my arms
trying to console.

Her eyes they opened slowly
as she felt my tender touch
her mind once more revealing
what her dreams had spawned so much.

With body frail and weakened
she clung with all her might
to forget about the terror
that had filled these many nights.

She whispered to me softly,
"I knew that you would come.
I will always love you,
but I fear my time is done."

I told her that I loved her
as tears rolled down my face
I cradled her in my arms
and quickly left that place.

I took her to the highland
cool and fresh the air
I held her tightly to me
and kissed her golden hair.

Her heart was faintly beating
as I held her to my breast
with love to warm the chilling night
we both laid down to rest.

Her fingers gripped around my arm
and shook me from my sleep
she pulled me even closer
and then began to weep.

I gently touched my lips to her's
then begged my Love to stay
she placed her hand upon my cheek
and slowly slipped away.

OUR DEMONS

There are many demons that possess us
from the depths of our hidden souls
always wanting and grasping
and fighting for control.

We can shrug our shoulders at them
and let them dictate our whole lives
sometimes it's easier to give in
than to put up an ugly fight.

Anger, hate and greed always
will lead only to our own distain
and sooner or later we'll find out
it'll only bring us deeper pain.

We wrestle with our conscience
at every single turn
trying to stay one step ahead
of what it is that we have learned.

THE HEART OF YOU

I want you to know that I'm here for you
won't you check it out and see
I'll be posing as your conscience
while smiling with glee.

I'll fight you with your every thought
and use your words against you too
I'll make you believe that hate is love
and you will call me shrewd.

I'll be cunning to gain your trust
I'll beg and rant and rave
I will be yours forever
until your resting in your grave.

I'll supply you with a wealth of lies
that spew from your poisoned lips
I'll kill all of your hopes and dreams
and steal your every wish.

I'll be there beside you beating you down
as your disgust and anger brews
I'm one of your many demons
that reigns in the heart of you.

ELUSIVE IMAGES

Sleep
A journey begins
As Morphia transports
The sleeper
Deeper.....deeper
Into the netherworld
Of the mind
Images drift
From sleep's tenuous veil
Vivid or wispy
Wondrous delights
Evaporate suddenly
As darker powers reign
Dark figures with bony fingers
Seek to deliver madness
For a fleeting moment
Lost.
Then the light
Pierces the darkness
Delivering the traveller
Safely to the shores of dawn.

KIDNAPPED SOUL

Clouds overcast
As the shadows take form
In the beginning of the night
They dance and sway under the moon
As the colors of night appear
Coming to life
Under the dim moonlight
Standing alone
Feelings of confusion overwhelming
Face drawn in a tight scowl
Analyzing the surroundings
Watching with a scornful look
As the shadows come to life
Under this pale moon they take shape
Attacking his very soul
The trees offer no shelter
From these unmerciful images
Slicing through his heart
As an image of his lost love
Falls beneath his feet
He stands his ground wearily
Determined not to break
A scornful look on his face
As the shadows take his soul
His eyes are distant now
They show no sign of life
He let the shadows of his mind
Kill his soul tonight

A SONG FAREWELL

Demons haunt you
But you stand strong
Not believing
You've done wrong

Yet people see it
In your face
The demons know
Your rightful place

They come for you
This fateful night
Darkness shall
Coincide with light

So sing your song
And bid farewell
You're on your way
To burn in hell

THE BARD'S SONG

On a dark road to all places far and near
Alone walks a tall, lean and somber balladeer
Alone to all but those with a well trained eye
And they see he is never alone thou he might try
For the spirit of every fallen hero has he in tow
Lost souls and demons are also likely to show
His songs of yesterdays long past and forgotten now
Breathes life anew into these aberrations somehow
He sings of great deeds they paid for with their blood
And greater battles fought in snows cold or rains mud
Warriors who only know pain, be it others or their own
Find that the Bards songs and stories is their only home
Love, lust and laughter also live in the songs the Bard's sing
But free of spirit no live of their own do these stories bring
In the heat of battle awash with blood the heroes live anew
They live in the Bard's song that he sang to me and you
