UNTITLED

Feel the setting of the sun....
fiery warmth across the water...
washing over me...embracing me...

Illuminating these last moments...
peace...comfort...serenity...
promising rest to tired shoulders...

Waves gently wash the shores....
liquid gold... quiet rhythm...
lulling...rocking...soothing...

Close your eyes...hear the silence...
of time moving on.

A RETURNING KISS, GOODBYE

A setting upon the lips of her horizon,
I watch her whisper a nightly soft sigh.
Her still waters reflecting her sorrow,
The feelings for her radiant lover.
As he takes his last breath of daily life,
She reaches beyond herself to hold her lover
...A moment longer.
Her heart breaks, to watch the night claw,
...Its way through her lover's existence.

Slowly he descends into her horizon.
As the sails of a never to return ship,
Slowly..as he disappears beyond her tender touch,
He offers her a kiss, with a returning promise.
She accepts his kiss of warmth, such only,
Can come from the love of the sun.

With the night awaiting its place among,
...The heavens
This golden star of worshipped times,
Burns the sullen fingers of a mistrusting foe.
Displaying his expulsion of the night,
...Upon his beloved.
He becomes flaming hues, characteristic,
...Of a Viking warrior's last sailing,
Upon the sea he has loved.
In a final gasp, he gives into his mistrust.
...She weeps, his demise.

I weep for thee, dear earthen woman.
Allow me to touch your tears,
To taste the salt of your sorrow.
To assure your loving heart, he shall return.
I shall cloak you from the shadows, of the night,
...With loving arms.
Arms you have given me, from a mothering womb.
We shall await as one, throughout the night.
Until the hues of pink roses, once more,
...Adorn your horizon's crown.
This his new day's gift, of your lover,
The sun.

FALSE SUNSET

Half a life ago (give or take a dream),
As my body formed a man,
The light of life slipped over the horizon of despair,
Sleeved behind the sea of fear.
Chromatic grays, forcing a path through silted eyes,
Amplified the cries and songs of soul.
Twilight, dusk ..... then dark and sleep
Were certain -- I was sure!
How could I anticipate
The nightmare night of the false sunset?

Lullaby ..... a Lullaby!
Sing my soul to peace!
Half a life's unending quest for calm.

Nine thousand dreams (times two, of a similar kind)
Punctuate the spirit pause of the child in a mortal mind.
A few are grand; some are good.
Most are unremembered; a few of cold sweat hue.
Reawakened from either form, the dreams recede into
The nightmare night of the false sunset.

Requiem ..... a Requiem!
Sing my soul to peace!
Half a life’s relentless strife for sleep.

A recent dream (combined of forms)
In the dawn dark realm of hope,
Flared beyond the life light corona of love inarticulate.
Perhaps it’s just an epilogue to
The sum of all my dreams, or -- Stop!
Can the lie be seen in the broken dreams of
A false sunset?

Melody ..... a Melody!
Sing my soul to peace!
All a life’s persistent lust for love.

THE GREAT ABYSS

Cold and untouched by the light
There are patches of darkness in the sky tonight
Surrounded by colours of orange, red and gold
How can something be so cold
As these holes within the sky
They are more than meets the eye
If you touched one you would freeze
More biting than a Winter's breeze
They bring a feeling of emptiness
Leading to the great abyss
They appear when a soul is lost
Having been sold at the highest cost
Entering the void of nothingness
Eternally stuck in the great abyss

SECOND SIGHT

Come here, my child, and sit with me,
Explain to me , what do you see?
The time of day, I think, is right,
Sun going down and waning light?
From  upon this dock, land's bridge afloat,
I've traveled far, in my simple boat,
Eyes intent, on tasks at hand,
Never looking, back at land,
Slowly sailing to fishing's ground,
Hoping, food, for you, be found,
Returning, early, sometimes late,
With barely enough, to fill your plate,
Never thinking to take the time,
To gaze at something, above, divine,
So my child, while sitting here,
Help me, can you, calm my fear,
Because it's now, when sight is dim,
From too much strife, and  grief, and sin,
That I wished, that I could see,
The thing I missed, when out at sea,
Others say to me with awe,
Look at the sky, there is no flaw,
Crimson ribbons, swirling art,
No telling where, land, and water part,
Tell me, child, all they say is true,
I wished I'd looked, wished I'd knew,
But youth is blind, and never tries,
To save inside, what's seen with eyes,
And when old age, comes at last,
We realize, my, how time has passed,
So, my child, tell me please,
with your youthful, eyes of ease,
All the splendors, drink it deep,
Or end up blind, as I, and weep...

LIFE'S SUNSET

Evening sun disappears
In a sinking red glow.
She is alone with her thoughts
her body withered an old.

Looking back down life's road
she sees everything in detail,
a little girl picking daisies,
a young bride in her wedding veil.

Their lives were one for many years
but the struggles have come and gone.
So early on that brisk Spring morn,
the angels came and took him home.

Often times when day becomes night
in the sunset she can see his face,
and when sleep comes she feels him near
as they stroll through that heavenly place.

In sadness she wakes
for once again he has gone
and she'll pass one more day
waiting patiently for setting sun.

AGONY AND ECSTASY

I watch the sky as red fires embers glow
And listen to the gentle thwack
As the waves rock and flow
And lean and look up and back
And search for my uneasy lack
I feel content at peace and yet
I feel there is another track
One where we looked and met
Is there another quiet scene?
A picture captured in a dream
One where you and I are free
And the world is kind and lets us be
But wishing and hoping are all well and good
But the regrets of the past are well understood
And I hear faint echoes draw me close
As I see her faintly as a ghost
The sky is dimming the fires burn low
My life is slowing yet even now
You bring some hope to these old ears
And you massage away my groundless fears
The gentle thwack of the lakes rise
And I hear the creatures of night arise
And so I put up my Rod my Reel
For What I caught is What I Feel

UNTITLED

I sit her on the shore of the lake,
sketch pad & pen in hand.
The picture in my mind,
something only you would understand.

I thought to use my meager talent
to portray the colors that I see.
Mother Nature's brilliant pallet
creates a sky of fantasy.

Instead I am distracted,
remembering the sunsets that we shared.
Your sudden absence from my life
has left me unprepared.

But as I watch the sun go down,
I realize it also rises
with a newfound gladness in my heart,
I know that so will I..

TRANQUILITY

Gazing toward the opposite shore watching as
The setting sun paints the sky the colors of autumn,
Seeming to set the water below on fire
With it's reflection.

I try to etch this place in my mind.
Knowing that, in a month or two, it will
Have great significance to me.
As I sit on foreign soil recalling my homeland.

Of all the blessings bestowed upon us as heirs to this planet
I have always been most grateful for the bounties of nature,
And the love of family and good friends.
Ever mindful, that like this sunset, these things too shall pass.

It is difficult for us, who come from places of peace and prosperity,
To realize that there are others less fortunate.
So in these final moments far from the killing fields,
I will watch another day come to a close and be thankful
For this time spent alone in tranquility.

LOST

A wash of color
Spread across the sky
Oranges and yellows
Beauty on high

Shadowy figures
Hiding from sight
Among the darkened trees
Stealthily into the night

Danger waits there
Like a brazen thief
Looking to destruction
Horrors from beneath

Looking to tomorrow
As the night is falling
Hearts filled with sorrow
The night songs calling

Hurt and pain
Around us lingers
Peaceful days
Slipping through our fingers

Destruction and chaos
Always here beside
There is no peace, only sorrow
No place to hide

THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM

Isn't it beautiful
This calm before the storm?
This lovely quiet sunset,
The place that I call home.

Many a night I've watched
This peaceful quiet view
As children play and lovers walk
And no one had a clue.

In recent years
The tides have changed
This wonderful lake
Has become deranged.

The rains keep coming
The winds mightily blow
Our beautiful closed basin lake
Just continues to grow.

Homes and cabins are deserted
except for water inside
Displaced families, no summer fun
and all the while we cried.

Help us! Please help us!
But our pleas fall on deaf ears.
They tell us they've know of our plight
For quite a number of years.

Court battles, heavy threats
And evil thoughts abound
How to move the water?
NO solutions will be found!!

Friends become enemies
Father against son
There's no way you can tell me
NOTHING can be done.

So we wait in silent wonder
As to what to what will be our next fight
The calm before the storm
Is beautiful for one more night.

NEW LIGHT

Lifting my head towards the sky
Black clouds contrasted
Against the golden sunset
Blinding in its precious light
Taken so for granted

The sun with all her grace
Lighting a path
For wise men and fools alike
Making the invisible barrier
Society creates to separate them
No longer exist

Light shines
Through dirty windows
Just as if no filthy layering
Was ever there

Grace gives us second chances
Just as if no mistakes
Were ever made

Focusing upon the light
The clouds slip out of view
Black spot wiped clean
From a spectacular sight
Of new
Refreshing
Light

MIRRORED IMAGES

Whispered wishes made upon
stones cast into the pond
and lamentations for peace.
Peace of heart..to mend our souls
Broken by false images of youth
With no hope.
The young sprout, does it not mirror
the gift from its previous seed?
Do then, our young, mirror the seed
of their parents?
What image are we holding out
before them?
Are they then a true reflection of ourselves?
Or a remnant of glass once thought precious.
When and where did our images become blurred?
Fragmented images become headlines.
Misplaced ambitions, values and morals,
Innocence frozen in fear,
Lost... in a matter of seconds...
And the sky runs red..
Reflections of a bloodbath.
At the hands of an enemy?
No...rather at the hands of those
Once called "Friends"
Hopes and dreams mere memories now
While survivors young and old try
To find answers to the question...
Why?
Whispered wishes made upon the
Headstones cast....
When the sky reflected...Red
Mirrored images of shattered youth.

THOUGHTS

Storms have been ravaging
It's been quite a day
But God has a way of salvaging
In His own special way

Man is intelligent and thinks he's smart
We know better____but of course
Clouds of the storm were all so dark
Churning around, displaying their force

After white capping waves
The lake is now calm
It's one of the days
Referred to in Psalms

Which Psalm comes to mind
It is up to your thoughts,
What to you is divine
Are you happy or not

How can you be so down and out
Feel disappear and be so low
At the top of your lungs you should scream and shout
Singing Glory Hallelujah to the God you know

SUN GONE DOWN

Here I am, the suns gone down.
Looking around, no one is found.
Closing my eyes as I ease to floor.
I see you standing, there at the door.
What are the words you want to say.
"Listen to me" "Baby, I cannot stay."
I hurt and cry, part of me, begins to die.

Realizing there is a chill in the air.
I light the fire, as if to care.
Desires linger, for me and you.
If only, I knew, what to do?
What if there is another one?
How can this love be undone?
I gasp, dear Lord, these are my fears.
So much has happened in the past years.

Setting suns, I'll watch at dusk.
 Recapturing moments, if I must.
Reminders of the life we shared.
 Rays of fire, glistening cared.
 Breaking into the final rest.
I reach to touch everlasting warmth.
Spreading glows I could not find.
 Captivating beliefs of my mind.

THOUGHTS AT SUNSET

As I approach my fourscore year
I know that soon within my bier,
Silent, alone, there I shall lie.
No, no, good friend, please do not cry,
For that's the way of life you know;
A time to start - a time to go.
And yet I do not fear the end
And to no gods my knee will bend
I know that there's no heav'n or hell,
I've lived my life, and lived it well.
So when at last it's time to leave,
We'll say farewell, but do not grieve.

REFLECT

Reflections in all shades of red,
Provoke my thoughts and fill my head
With memories of dreams come true:
Romantic times I've spent with you.

I see those rocks in my minds eye:
Dissecting crimson sea and sky
With strands of yellow interspersed.
A show of beauty, unrehearsed.

And all the time I view this scene,
You lurk there in my mind, unseen.
I feel your presence all the while;
I taste your lips and see your smile.

You've only been away four days;
But I miss all your funny ways:
The way you wrinkle up your nose
And giggle when I touch your toes.

You went to comfort a sick friend.
You phoned me that she's on the mend:
All the better for your short stay,
And now you're coming home today.

We'll take the car this evening, love
And as the dusk descends above,
We'll once more go out to that bay
And watch the sunset end the day.

Romantic times I've spent with you,
With memories of dreams come true.
Provoke my thoughts and fill my head:
Reflections in all shades of red.

TWILIGHT

What a perfect ending to a glorious day
the sky is golden orange
and the calm and peace are settling in
through the clouds we see HIS stars starting to
blink promises of wonder and delight
the campfire is high and hot
as we roast the marshmallows for smores
in the distance we hear an owl hoot
letting the night know he is awake and ready!!!
we are all alone waiting
watching
thinking
desiring
I see you move closer
and I lean into your arms
knowing that completion is soon to come
I am grateful for the night
and the memories  we are  building
tonight we are in perfect harmony
with nature and  each other
as we watch the sky
put on its magnificent
color show

SUNDOWN

Like a lover, the sun goes down
Its burning flames spreading all around
Heated touches, fanning desires
Out of the shadows from which it inspires
Dark caresses of reflecting light
Tickling the shores of the sensual night
Golden promises of tomorrow's dreams
Shudders and sighs with nocturnal screams
Of heated passions, the day came and went
Into the night, its energies spent

UNTITLED

Calm & still; peaceful, serene,
The glory of Nature; an artists scene
The waters still, not a breath of breeze
A moment in time for a painter to freeze.

Our experience in life has led to this time,
No one around, at last you'll be mine.
You scurry and dart to escape my embrace
But, I won't be denied the thrill of the chase.

My excitement mounts as I play out "the game"
Resistance is useless; I have no guilt and no shame
I cry with Rapture as your body quivers one time
Then utterly, completely, you become mine.

Alone at the campfire later that night
I gaze in contentment at the starry sight
A sense of completeness, of what life is about
As I re-live the triumph:  My very first trout.

FOR MY FATHER

My dear father, I love you, so much more than words can tell.
I hope that you will know this, I will try to say it well.
This sunset does remind me, that life's fleeting and so short.
We all need love and comfort, to be sheltered from the storm.
Dad, I have tried to live my life as you would want me to.
I did this as a testimony to my love for you.
Through life's trials and tribulations, you always stood by me.
Giving ever of yourself so I could learn to be
A person of my own, not extended just from you.
You kissed me softly and let go, and then I soared and flew.
T’were dips and downs within my flight. It was not all smooth.
But you were there to catch me when I made a stumbling move.
Now I am on my own again, new shores to yet explore.
Your support of me has meant so much!  You will never know
The tenderness that's in me, for the comfort that you gave,
When I was lost and far away on the path that I had made.
Dad, I hope that you are proud of me, the things I have achieved.
For you're the one who showed me how to soar upon my wings.

REFLECTIONS

Solace came to the old man
Rooted in his favorite spot to be
From sunrise to sunset
In bibbed overalls with fishing pole
And his dog named Flea
Cherished times lingered
Instilling ripples that flowed
And lines that bind
A catch caught in given time
Images savored some set free
A perfect place for him to be
Sunset nearing a calling
From another shore
Twilight dimming
Treasures reaping
Finding much more
Blessed with his life
Reflections of his time
Reminiscing happily
In his bibbed overalls
With fishing pole
And his dog named
Flea.

LOVE'S FIRST MEMORY

Memory stirs to a sunset such as this,
to a time of new love and a first tender kiss.
As we stood on the hill overlooking the lake,
our hearts were so full and our bodies so ached.

As we stood with each other, locked in embrace;
emotions so high, there were tears on our face.
All of our senses taking everything in;
aware that forever was about to begin.

Few words could be spoken to aptly describe
what was before us, in each others' eyes.
When darkness overtook us, we were caught unaware...
as time had stood still, for us two standing there.

So into each other, becoming as one;
sealing our bond that would ne'er be undone.
Year after year, each sunset we view...
recalling the night when our love was so new.

PERFECTION

Day is done
The perfect day
Full of warmth
Tenderness
Playfulness
Yet peaceful
We gaze about
Perfection
The sky illuminated
By the setting sun
An artist rendering
Has been done
Perfection
We sit back
Reminisce on memories
Of frolicking in the calm waters
The crowds are gone
Peaceful
Perfection
Day is done
Lay back to take in
The setting sun
Perfection

SUNSETS PAST

Brilliant light
dazzling the eyes
enfolding with memories
caressing my sighs

Memorable moments
breathe in
breathe out
just wanting to sit here
while no one's about...

eyes closing slowly
to see what's inside
even the breeze dies away
respecting suns dip from
the skies..

though always knowing
this natural art will again appear
its semblance and balance
gives me pause to revere

each moment progresses
drinking in this wondrous sight
as dusk melts in splendor
to another hug-gable night...

and as the sun disappears
deepening hues that cannot last
memories swirl with the paint stroke
on sunsets of my past.

DREAMS

Lying adrift in the bottom of this boat
I gaze at the red and yellow sunset
The water so calm, mirrored
There is no sound

All God's creatures settled in for the night
The sky reflects red upon my skin
Glowing as if I'm on fire
Falling into a deep silent dream

My mind racing back in time
Of a time we had together
Such passion
Such happiness

You made me feel alive
Having a purpose, a meaning
Darkness is falling upon me
I so wish this dream to last forever

Maybe to stay here longer
I will see it written in the stars
But I know deep within my heart what message they bring
There won't be a time to come to heal these scare

RED SKY AT NIGHT

Red sky at morning and sailors give warning
But a red sky at night is a sailors delight
All because Sinbad the sailor sailed the seven seas
For he had the freedom to go wherever he please
Once while crossing the mediterranean he did hear
A weak and desperate voice call out to him in fear
He searched and found a mermaid entwined in a fisherman's net
And when freed she said forever would she be in his debt
She said her name was Ariel and into the water she did leap
I am the daughter of Neptune lord and master of the deep
For your help and kindness all sailors will now be forewarned
Of my fathers anger and temper that all afloat does scorn
When all is well I shall place a kiss upon the night time sky
Let the red hue clouds give comfort to raising your sails up high
But if my father rages and causes turmoil to an ocean or a sea
It will be the morning sky whose red tint will give warning from me
