Welcome to my Poetry

I am Bear1Mage
(Bear1Mage 5/24/1956 - 5/2/2005)

I would like this to be a place where people (using Excites VPLaces chat program) come to read and talk poetry. Where ideas are discussed rather than the belittlement of our fellow man. It matters not if you are a master verse crafter or novice wordsmith your ideas, thoughts and points of view have merit and are welcome here. If you have a helpful idea or suggestion for this site or wish to ask a question feel free to email me at bear1mage@hotmail.com

Poetry is the spark of desire the soul ignites to make all things possible in our mind, when everything else tells us it is impossible. Poetry can make kings of commoners and conquerors of cowards. It can release the venom of old wounds or shed light on a dark mood. Poetry is a fact that happens in each and every one of our life's, but many either refuse to see or don't understand. Because of this many a soul stands alone feeling disjointed or out of step in life, looking for reason and much needed understanding.

Now as to what makes a good poem good. I think all poetry is good, if a poem touches someone, anyone, even if it is only the  person who wrote it, that makes it good. Anyone who feels they have something to say, anyone who has an understanding they want to express or anyone who just wants to tell how they feel, is a poet. Poetry is not meant to move the heart and soul of all who read it, it is only meant to bring together like-minded souls. As to a poems meaning I would rather that be interpreted by the reader to his or her own understandings. There are some who want poetry to be more, to have more meaning, more reason, more wisdom. To them I say look within yourself, for it is a sign of personal growth so let it reflect within your poetry. But remember that not everyone sees life from the same point of view, the same experience or the same station in life.  Also anyone who tells someone they are not good poet or even poet at all, only shows their inability to understand and prove themselves to be not worth listening to, so don't and just keep writing your poetry.

Some of the mistakes I see in many poems are Point of view differences, Flow and timing problems because of wording and Lack of or Mis-titled.

View point differences tend to happen when the poet doesn't tell the whole story thus leaving everyone else confused. It may make sense to you but you know the story behind the poem

Flow and timing because of wording happens when we put more words in a line than is needed. Sample: (Well I knew it was time to do something about it), the word "Well" does nothing for this line but tie it up and slow down the reading so should be left out.

You may not think a title is all that important but just think of some of the books, movies or poems you your self didn't give a chance just because of the title. If you didn't think it worth a title why should anyone read it? A title sets people up for what they are in story for so if you title a poem THE PERFECT LOVE when it is about hate or politics people are less likely to respond to it in a favorable manner.

Who is --BEAR1MAGE-- the poet
I am a dreamer who fears not the light, for I dream by day as well as night. While I cast a mighty shadow I have been told I stand twice as tall. My heart and soul are the measure of my dreams and my face cause for others nightmares. I try to be the rock of reason in the tide of storms, by offering understanding when others only offer hateful angry words. Void of emotions I need not let them get in my way, so I am able to stand on the outside and look within. I am a climber in search of mental mountains, seeker of lost souls and finder of fellow poets and daring dreamers. (Bear1Mage 5/24/1956 - 5/2/2005)
