Brief history of the band
The Beatles were without any doubt the most influential music group of the rock era. Initially they influenced the post-war baby boom generation of Britain and the U.S. during the 1960s, and later the rest of the world. They were the most successful group in terms of financial success, with global sales exceeding 1.1 billion records.
Divine Comedy
It all started in 1957, when a young John Lennon started a band called the Quarrymen. Later that year Lennon met Paul McCartney and the latter joined the group, recruiting also George Harrison in 1958.
After going through several changes in name and band members (including Pete Best and Stuart Sutcliffe), the group finally called themselves the Beatles under the EMI's Parlophone.
Poems
Their first full album, Please Please Me, went to number one on the charts and started the phenomenon of Beatlemania in England. After this success they toured America, before returning to England to make their first movie, A Hard Day's Night. In 1967 they played their last official concert and focused on recording albums.
After the death of the band's manager, Brian Epstein, their career took a turn. They recorded their last album, Abbey Road, in 1969, and in 1970 the group officially broke up.
Group members pursued individual careers, more or less successful. Reunion hopes were crushed in 1980, when Lennon was murdered.
