Allan Grant...

...has been painting pictures for more than 30 years, and became a full time professional artist five years ago, after redundancy from his job as a newspaper sub-editor and page designer gave him the opportunity he had been waiting for.

Since then he has regularly organised one-man exhibitions of his work in Newport and throughout the Monmouthshire area of South Wales, and has also exhibited work at the annual Bath and West Show art exhibition at Shepton Mallet in Somerset.

Apart from painting he has also been a keen photographer for many years, and was a founder member of the Gwent Photographic Society, which is still flourishing in Newport.

Local scenes, particularly of his home town of Newport, have provided favourite subjects for his paintings, and other regular 'stamping grounds' are North Cornwall and the fishing villages of East Fife, and also St Andrews, the 'Home of Golf.' But landscapes and townscapes are just one aspect of his work, which also includes still life, nature studies and figure studies.

He works in a variety of media, including watercolour, pastel and oil, and has recently been investigating computer generated art. Landscape work is mainly produced in his studio from drawings and reference photographs made on the spot.
