David and I
We've known each other now thirty years or more,
But we never ever argue, though he sometimes makes me sore.
We both grew up together in the shadow of Tiger Bay,
We're proud to say we're from the Docks, and Docks boys we will stay.
Although I'm a few years older, our schooling was the same,
We both attended Eleanor Primary, and Ninian Park in Grange.
It wasn't till the streets came down, and we had to move away,
That we met again in Ely, we've be friends now since that day.
The only times he's made me mad, is when he buys a set of wheels,
He always ends up with a shed and not the best of deals.
If only he had come to me, before he handed out the cash,
I could have told him that's no good, it's just a load of trash.
We've had some laughs Dave and I, and I've conned him some you'll find,
Like the time he joined, the T.A., because I told him I had signed.
We've done some motoring together, that's, caused a bit of tension,
Me, I nearly rolled a van, and Dave bust his suspension.
Dave he's had some accidents, like the time he ripped his skin,
By slicing an electric cable, then slipping down some tin.
Once he arrived down my house, covered with blood, from head to toe,
When I asked him, what had happened, he said, " I dived though a window".
He was best man, when I first married, but of that I have my doubt,
He let me go and say, " I do ", he didn't try to talk me out.
Diddy Dave I call him, because he isn't very tall,
He may be short in inches, but as a friend, he's ten feet tall.
I don't care what others think of him, me I think he's great,
I'm proud to stand beside him, because, David your my mate.
