"Millennium"

I am not a weirdo, or preacher of doom,

I just feel we can all find a little more room

To replace those feelings of malice and spite

And walk past fellow men and be polite

I am not an idealist nor influenced by drugs,

Just frustrated by life and all of its bugs

We have all had our reasons to hate and despise

Some trivial, some sinister and most fuelled with lies

Now's the time to forgive and the time to forget

Or we will all be bitter and diseases will set

Just pause for a moment and think for a while

And recall the last time you awoke with a smile.

When was the last time you said 'Hi' to a stranger?

A long time, I bet, because you felt in danger

So primitive this statement, so sad but it's true

We are afraid of the response and rejection too

Take not when a pensioner passes you by

They are afraid to look the youth of today in the eye

And who can blame them as we all read the press

It is time to wake up - our society's a mess

Why not start as the new day is dawning

And to everyone you pass, just say 'Good morning'

You may feel quite silly at first when you try

But soon you'll feel good with a warmth in your eye

When you've mastered this art, without feeling sleazy

You can try the next stage, but it won't be easy

Regardless of colour, leave your prejudice behind,

And break down all barriers for the sake of mankind

It will be a long road and we'll hit a few bends

But at least on the path, we'll be meeting new friends

So let's set a target so we all understand

That millennium's the time we can all touch hands.
