Justifiably
so Gary Lineker is regarded as one of the world's greatest strikers.
Gary was quite often played wide in his early days with Leicester, until
his alert goal-poaching habit began truly to blossom during the 1981/82
season.
There were still distinct gaps in his footballing repertoire
when City fought their way back to Division One in 1983, Being Leicesters
top scorer for 4 seasons running, Lineker became England choice up front
despite City's low form in the Division.
Inevitable, was a transfer; and it was to current Division
1 champions Everton that Lineker moved to for £800,000. 30 League
goals, 10 more in Cup competitions, and both versions of the Footballer
of the Year award made up Gary's individual honors list from his Goodison
Parkseason.
Gary's value increased dramatically again, following his
time in the 1986 World Cup, when his hat-trick against Poland made him
a national hero and a household name. Despite no winning the Cup 6 goals
in the tournament won him the competition's Golden Boot award as top scorer.
Terry Venables' then Barcelona manager paid £2,750,000 for the now
WORLD FAMOUS Gary Lineker.
Now at Barcelona Gary picked up his first winner's medal after Barcelona
won the 1988 Spanish Cup Final.
The 1990 World Cup saw him score a further 4 goals as England's
campaign reached a semi-final penalty shoot-out, but again England failed
to progress. But Gary did pick up an award, the individual FIFA Fair Play
award.
He earned an FA Cup winner's medal with Spurs in 1991, - When Graham Taylor
controversially ended his international career in 1992 Lineker had already
announced his intention to move to Japan to assist in the 1993 launch
of the Japanese J-League.
Gary announced his retirement from playing in November
1994 and went on to become a TV presenter on 'Match of the Day'. Also
the widely recognised face of Walkers crisps. He returned to the Filbert
Street pitch for the last time to feature briefly in Gordon Banks' benefit
game in April 1995. Linekers long-running connection with the Foxes was
honoured by the north stand at City's Walkers Stadium being named after
him when he officially opened the new ground in July 2002. He most recently
showed his commitment to the club when heading the consortum which bought
City out of administration.
Before this act Gary Lineker was a hero and a Legend to every Leicester
Fan around the world.
Now for what he's done for our great club Gary Lineker is Truly a GOD
