| The cousin
of former City player Jackie Sinclair, Tommy earned an Under-21 squad call-up
shortly after breaking through as a teenager striker at Leeds United. But
he had to wait for his 1st Scottish cap at that level until after his £80,000
move to Boundary Park.
In 1989 he signed for Leicester in a deal worth £350,000.
With City he became a cult figure and every game the chant "Uh Tommy
Wright, Uh Tommy Wright" could be heard. In his final Season at Filbert
Street Tommy was the Clubs top scorer.
His efforts on the pitch had made him such a cult hero
to the City faithfull, and his last home game, in the Play-off Semi-Final
5-1 pasting of Cambridge United, was a true performance, worthy of attracting
the Premier League attention that led to his £650,000 move. Middlesborough.
Who were relegated in 1993, and Tommy lost his plave in the Boro team
soon after; being freed from hbis contract in May 1995. In the summer
he joined a Lennie Lawrence side full of Ex Leicester Stars at Bradford
City.
After Bradford Tommy returned to Oldham, and there were subsequent moves
but he never quite found the form he had at Leicester.
