Cathrine Ann MacPhee sings Mairi Mhor (CDTRAX 070, Greentrax)

A collection of the songs of the great Skye Bardess Mairi Mor nan Orain (1821 - 1898) who wrote some of the most beautiful songs in Gaelic. She lived through the clearances and they are the subject off, or form a background to, many of her songs. This recording is also a lesson in tasteful instrumentation and accumpniment (which is sometimes lacking in Gaelic recordings).

A seminal record from Runrig, half in Gaelic, half in English. This, together with the previous recording "Recovery," brought Gaelic culture back to young Gaels and the masses. Their influence cannot be overstated, Gaelic'smodern history starts here.

A testiment to the talents of the greatest living Gaelic song writers - The MacDonald brothers of the Gaelic rock band "Runrig". All their great songs are on this recording.
