Comment: July 28th:
As expected, the final meeting at Geelong this season did not alter the jockey premiership rankings. Kerrin McEvoy (8 season wins), Danny Nikolic (7), Steve Arnold (6) and Link Robertson (6) did not ride at the meet, but will make up the top 5 for the season, along with Nash Rawiller, who moved to six wins when he rode Bonoval to victory. He also rode two placings.
McEvoy's winners for the season were Fabio Pennacchio, Lord Mick, Fraar's Turn (x2), Cocktail Evening, Media Magnate, Deputy Head and Lady Madeleine.
Riding honours of the day went to Andrew Finlay, who scored an early double on maiden winners Purple Road and Loch 'n' Roll, taking his final season tally to three wins. Jason Patton is enjoying a good run at the track, this time winning the feature Winter Cup on Vincent - his fifth Geelong win for the season, taking his final standing to 6th overall. Ivan Culliver moved up to two wins when despised roughie Royal Pine blew everyone out of the quaddie in race seven, while Steven King, recently back from holiday, won the final race on Future Analysis.
The apprentices enjoyed a good day, with three of Victoria's top young riders Michelle Payne, Brendan Fenech and Reece Wheeler all riding winners; the latter two also rode a runner-up each. The results, however, did not alter the apprentices' premiership. Fenech and Wheeler's wins were their first at Geelong for the season, while Payne's win was her second. Title winner Mark Zahra, the highest ranked apprentice on four wins, finished equal seventh in the overall premiership, but did not ride at the final meet after he broke his wrist in a trackwork accident. Zahra's Geelong winners for the season were Sloane Street, Red Vista, She's My Baby and Mighty Amber.
Vin Caddy will finish second in the apprentices' title, with three wins, despite spending almost three months in Queensland. Three apprentices shared third placing, on two season wins - Vinnie Hall (who has since finished his apprenticeship), Michelle Payne, and Zac Purton (who only rode in Victoria for three months).

Comment: July 16th:
Things were extremely quiet at the top of the jockeys' premiership this meet. Kerrin McEvoy remains the leader on eight wins, despite not having ridden at Geelong for several meets. He looks the favourite to take out the title though, with his nearest rivals Dan Nikolic and Link Robertson currently on interstate missions. Robertson rode a treble at Geelong on July 6th, but it did not count towards his season tally as the meet was classed as a Ballan meeting.
Riding honours of the day went to Nash Rawiller, who rode a double as well as two placings, and this boosts him to five wins and fifth overall placing. He would need to have a terrific book of rides on July 28 to have any hope of catching or overtaking McEvoy though. Jason Patton moved up to equal sixth, on four season wins, but spent a large amount of time in the runners-up stalls, riding three second placings. Neville Wilson and Brian Werner move up to four and three respectively after each riding a winner, while three jockeys move to two wins - Clint Massey, Steve Vella and Paul Saunders. Vella continued his good association with Old Red, while Saunders won on local galloper Khapterino, and Massey on 50-1 surprise winner Aussie Loti. Talented apprentice Michael Connick joined thirteen other apprentices to have ridden a Geelong winner for the season when Zo Ally broke through for her maiden win. Mark Zahra failed to add to his four wins, but has the apprentices' title wrapped up, with nearest challengers Vin Caddy and Zac Purton in Queensland and Vinnie Hall having recently ended his apprenticeship.
With no more hurdles scheduled for the Geelong season, Simon Ryan has already won the jumps title, on 1 1/2 wins. Ryan was the only jumps rider to score dual wins at Geelong this season.

Comment: June 27th:
With ladder-leader Kerrin McEvoy absent from the lastest meeting, his nearest rivals took the opportunity to make some more ground on him. Danny Nikolic made a hit-and-run trip from his current stint in Queensland to ride Myles Plumb's debutant Applicant, who showed plenty of class to win. Nikolic now sits on seven season wins, just one behind McEvoy. Steve Arnold scored his sixth Geelong win of the season to join Link Robertson as equal-third placed overall. With only three meets left for the season, these four look to be the main winning contenders, with a bunch of others sitting back on four wins each. One of those is Mark Zahra, whose win in the feature race on Mighty Amber also took him to the top of the apprentices' premiership, one ahead of Vin Caddy who is currently riding in Queensland. The jumps jockey ladder also has a new leader, Simon Ryan, whose mount Calcavecchia deadheated in the hurdle race with Bill Williams' Northern Charisma. Other changes to the list include Jason Patton's move from 2 to 3, and first wins for Steven Vella, Ivan Culliver and Andrew Finlay.

Comment: May 16th:
As was the case in the Trainers' Premiership, the latest Geelong meet didn't alter much at the top of the jockeys' ladder. The highest ranked move was made by Darren Gauci after his narrow win on Lucky Run, which takes him to four wins and equal 5th placing. The biggest move came from Aaron Spiteri though, who scored a rare double with Zulu Storm and Momentary Madness - his first Geelong wins of the season. Two others to enter the ladder were jumps jockey Ciaron Maher and apprentice Lonagan Milham. Brian Werner moves up to two wins, while Vlad Duric and Brett Prebble move to three each.

Comment: May 7th:
The day belonged to the apprentices, who ended a recent dry run at Geelong to take out four of the eight races. Vinnie Hall maintained his amazing winning strike rate since he returned from injury recently when he won on Russell Cameron's Magic Motive. It was Hall's second Geelong win of the season. Michelle Payne scored her first when she won aboard Deals, trained by Ramon Goldsmith, in the Carlton Draught Hcp, while other apprentices Mark Zahra and Vin Caddy took out the other feature races, and at the same time cleared away from Zac Purton (who's back riding in Queensland) to be the equal highest apprentices in the premiership. Zahra won the Red Ruby heat on She's My Baby, while Caddy was on board Royal Isolt who won the TEAC Rising Stars heat. Both wins were for the apprentices' masters, Tony McEvoy and Leon Corstens respectively. Other jockeys to win races on the card were Peter Mertens, now on four wins; Wayne Davis, up to two; Brett Scott, who scored his first Geelong jumps race for the season; and Link Robertson, who rarely lets a Geelong meet go by without riding a winner. Up to six wins, he now sits equal second in the premiership and looks a genuine chance to take it out, with only five meetings left for the current season. Leader Kerrin McEvoy did not ride today, while equal second-placed Dan Nikolic could only manage two third placings.

Comment: April 19th:
Jockey premiership leader Kerrin McEvoy extended his lead over 2nd-placed Danny Nikolic to two wins, but riding honours of the day went to Link Robertson, who rode a double with White Mist and Rocky Le Beau, taking him to a total of five for the season. One win behind him is Noel Callow, now on four. Neville Wilson is enjoying a good month at Geelong, posting his third winner for April to take him to three wins overall. Also joining him on three are Peter Mertens and Gavin Eades, while Sally Wynne and Craig Robertson both move up to two.

Comment: April 4th:
Kerrin McEvoy was not at the latest Geelong meeting to fight off Steve Arnold's charge up the Geelong jockey's ladder. Arnold scored a double with terrific rides on Time's Ripe and also On The Snip in the feature race, and moves up to 5 wins, just 2 off leader McEvoy. Another jockey making a spirited late bid for the title is Neville Wilson, who rode a double with the last two winners on the program, Spectacular Storm and Lenoir - his first two Geelong winners for the season. Noel Callow,  Luke Currie and Link Robertson all moved from 2 wins to 3, while Steve Baster rode his first Geelong winner for the season on promising galloper The Creature.
