Comment: August 22nd:
Kerrin McEvoy continues to dominate the Geelong jockeys' premiership, this time riding a winning double to take him to a clear lead in the title. After some early placings, McEvoy rode home the final two winners of the day, narrowly scoring on Wind Storm, and then replacing the injured Dan Nikolic to come from near the tail to win on Pindarri Gold.
Sharing riding honours with McEvoy was Vinnie Hall, who landed his spoils early in the day, with comfortable maiden winners Eastern Spirit and Phantom's Opera. Hall now sits second in the title alongside Noel Callow, who partnered Zedatzi to a seven length slaughter of his oppositon in the feature of the day.
Mark Flaherty, recently returned from a stint in Sydney, tasted success when local galloper Culzean won Race 6, while Brett Prebble accompanied Skyworth in her Race 4 victory. Rhys McLeod was the only apprentice to ride a winner, teaming up with the Freedman stable on first-starter Tomakomai.

Comment: August 8th:
Kerrin McEvoy was back at Geelong today to defend his last season's title victory, and got off to a flying start when he rode home Westminster Hall for last season's joint leading trainer Tony McEvoy. Danny Nikolic, who last year finished runner-up to McEvoy in the Geelong jockeys' title, also began the season on a high note, winning the first race of the program on Throng, who was impressive in just his first racetrack outting. Noel Callow scored a lucky pick-up ride, at the expense of the ill Peter Mertens, in race three when he won narrowly on Mootang. Two young apprentices continuing on their winning way were Brady Cross, who won the Wool Exchange Class 6 Hcp on Martial Rule, and Michael Connick, who won on El Mozo in the final race on the card. Other successful jockeys on the day were Damien Holland (Scarlet), Craig Robertson (Elizabeth Therese), and Aaron Spiteri (Cool Talk Cafe).
