Comment: July 28th:
None of the top six trainers in the Geelong trainer's premiership had a single runner between them, at the final meeting for the season, which means Brian Mayfield-Smith and Tony McEvoy will share the title honours, on seven wins apiece. Mayfield-Smith's winners for the season were Fabio Pennacchio, Ella Fire, Greek Adonis, Times Ripe, White Mist, Philbel and Dane River, while McEvoy tasted victory with Gothic Force, Sloane Street, Fraar's Turn (x2), Cocktail Evening, Spontane and She's My Baby.
Three trainers shared third placing in the title, on five wins - Russell Cameron, David Hall and Bruce Elkington, while Robert Smerdon trained 4 1/2 Geelong winners for the season. Nigel Blackiston, Clarry Conners, Bart Cummings, Michael Moroney and Len Treloar all saddled up four winners.
Blackiston and Conners both had a win at the latest meeting, with Blackiston's youngster Purple Road winning the 2yo maiden plate, and Conners' consistant gelding Vincent narrowly scoring in the feature Winter Cup.
Three trainers took their season tallies up to two wins, namely Greg Eurell (Loch 'n' Roll), Matthew Hyland (Plexus) and John Blakey (Sergio).
John O'Keefe, Max Prebble, Bruce Purcell and Quinton Scott all trained their first Geelong winners for the season, taking the number of individual trainers to win at Geelong this year to 89. O'Keefe and Scott's winners were both longshots, while Prebble's consistant Bonoval finally broke through for her first win, and Purcell's Future Analysis took his record to two from two at the circuit.

Comment: July 16th:
A new joint-leader has emerged at the top of the Geelong trainers' premiership. Brian Mayfield-Smith now sits alongside Tony McEvoy on seven wins for the season after the narrow win of Dane River, having his first run for the stable. McEvoy has not trained a Geelong winner since May 7th, despite having had several runners, including two today. The battle for the title looks like going right down to the wire at the last remaining meeting of the season, on July 28th. Meanwhile, Len Treloar is quietly making his way up the ladder, moving to four wins after Classic Encores' win. Charlie Goggin is now on three wins after Amalthea bolted in to capture her first win. Bruce Elkington trained a win and two thirds; Pride of Oamaru's victory taking him to equal third overall on five wins, and he will almost undoubtedly end the season as the highest ranked local. Another local Sonny Coombes moves up to two wins, enjoying a good run with his galloper Old Red. New trainers continue to enter the title. Locals Janet Mott and Niall Phillips both trained a winner, the latter scoring his first win since taking out his training licence.
The Tony Noonan-trained Manawa King gave his stable its first Geelong win for the season, while Zo Ally scored easily for Tony Krushka, who went close to a double when Rekoba was nosed out in the last race.

Comment: June 27th:
The trainers' premiership was finally altered after nearly six weeks since the last meeting on May 16th. Tony McEvoy of Lindsay Park still sits atop the premiership, but Brian Mayfield-Smith moves to just one win off him, on 6 wins, after his 3yo Philbel broke through for his maiden win. Mayfield-Smith is now a clear second in the title. The other move that took place near the top came from Robert Smerdon, who moves to 4 1/2 wins after his horse Calcavecchia deadheated in the hurdle race. The win now places Smerdon in 5th place overall. Myles Plumb and Charlie Goggin were both back in the winners' stalls, with a victory each taking them from 2 wins to 3 overall. Five new trainers debuted into the premiership, namely Peter Brazil, Sonny Coombes, Geoff Duryea, Dennis Heather and Glenn O'Connell.

Comment: May 16th:
The top half of the premiership remains unchanged after the latest Geelong meeting, with equal 14th placed Robert Smerdon the highest ranked trainer to experience victory on the day. Smerdon in fact scored a double, winning the hurdle with Rose Of Siena at her jumping debut, and then taking the prize with promising gelding Storm Attack three races later. The wins take Smerdon up to four for the season, and equal fifth placing. While many of the higher profile stables had a quiet day, Peter Healey (Le Thief), Bob Whitford (Lucky Run) and Ray Besanko (Zulu Storm) all entered the list of Geelong-winning trainers for the season. Cliff Brown (Momentary Madness) and Wendy Kelly (Storm The Palace) move up to two wins, while Len Treloar (Marauding Tide) moves to three.

Comment: May 7th:
Ladder leader Tony McEvoy further strengthened his grip on this season's Geelong premiership with the win of his promising 2yo filly She's My Baby in the feature race of the day, the Red Ruby heat. The win takes him up to seven Geelong wins for the season. The stable of Russell Cameron is another one in form, and his victory with Magic Motive promotes the trainer to equal second in the premiership on five wins, but still two behind McEvoy. Cameron has now trained a winner at each of the past three Geelong meets. Mike Moroney is now up to equal third on four wins after providing one of the easiest wins seen on the track in a long time, The Mighty Lions, who scored by eight lengths eased down. Nigel Blackiston is up to three wins, while four trainers earned their first Geelong win for the season - John Wheeler (Wilson Road), Michael Zampatti (Masked Raider), Leon Corstens (Royal Isolt) and Ramon Goldsmith (Deals).

A new leader has emerged in the Geelong trainer's premiership as Tony McEvoy finally breaks his tie with David Hall and moves up to 6 wins with the win of his galloper Spontane. Russell Cameron and Lee Freedman each move up a notch onto 3 and 2 wins respectively, while local trainers Jamie Edwards, David Conners and Michael Laurence all scored a win, with the latter two making their debut into this season's premiership, as does Flemington trainer Ern Ewert Jnr.
