We know a lot about Ancient Greeks, especially from which have survived for thousands of years. In ancient times the Greeks lived in city states. Each state had its own laws, government and money. The two most important city states were Athens and Sparta.
The Greek diet was very healthy. They ate lots of bread, beans and olives. They had plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables in the summer, and dried fruit in the winter. They had stored, cheeses they had made in summer, and lentils. And ofcuorse as they lived near the sea they ate a lot of fish.
Ancient Greece is very fameous for its science. Greeks learned about music and poetry, mathematics and philosophy. They also liked sports. The Greeks believed that a healthy body was very important, and most men and boys practised sports every day.
The Greeks enjoyed singing and dancing, and the early Greeks would hold festivals after the grape harvest, to honour Dionysus, the god of wine. MOreover, they loved theatre. All the actors were men. They wore large masks that exaggerated facial features and emotions. The mouth hole was large to help amplify the voices. Greek plays were either comedies or tragedies. Tragedies were often about the past, whereas comedies tended to be about current and everyday life. Actors in comedies wore bright colours. Actors in tragedies wore dark colours.
