22 May 2004 -
May 17 saw the Japanese release of Ryukyu Underground's Okinawa Lounge EP
containing a Da Lata remix of Kuijin nu Hana. The same track will be included
on Ryukyu Underground's upcoming album, Ryukyu Remixed.
13 May 2004 -
Nina Miranda features on three tracks on the debut album from Troubleman,
Time Out Of Mind scheduled for release in May. One of the tracks, "Paz" is
also included on the "Brazilian Love Affair 5" compilation also released in May.
According to a recent Cosmic Sounds newsletter Arkestra One has reworked an
old track into "Wanting" which features Nina Miranda and Chris Franck. The
track's been licensed by Philips USA for use in a future TV commercial.
12 April 2004 -
Domenico+2 released their Sincerely Hot album last year in Brazil. The album
contains 2 tracks with vocals from Nina Miranda.
31 October 2003 -
Chris Franck & Patrick Forge released the second Da Lata album, Serious on the
21 October. Nina Miranda contributes vocals on a couple of tracks.
7 August 2003 -
As a precursor to a new Da Lata album scheduled for September promo copies of
a track titled "Serious" (and remixes) have been released for DJ play and
Patrick Forge has been playing other tracks from the album on his Kiss 100 FM
radio show).

flamenco guitar. That's Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's nephews chanting the main

"Moonrise" Recorded in stages in Paris, London, Rio de Janeiro and Madrid,
the growling of natural percussion gives way to a hypnotic vocal duet
between Algerian rai singer Cheb Mami and London-based Brazilian vocalist
Nina Rocha Miranda, of Smoke City fame. 'I like the naivety and optimism
of Brazilian string sections,' says Nitin. The strings of Orquestra
Sinfonica Brasileira were, along with the backing vocals, recorded in Rio
but, for once, Nitin leaves the guitar work to the Spanish flamenco
maestro Jose Miguel Carmona, son of the legendary Pepe Hibichuela, whose
parts were put down in Madrid.
"Walk Away" Nina Rocha Miranda sings a brooding, trip-hoppy arrangement
interspersed with samples of Martin Luther King, Chandru Shekar's karnatic
violin and ambient percussives from Steve Shehan, a featured player on
'Beyond Skin' and currently Paul Simon's percussionist.

Perhaps no song better symbolizes the musical possibilities within Bebel
Gilberto's songwriting than her "August Day Song," which appears in three
completely different arrangements on Tanto Tempo Remixes. The producing
duo from Paris known as Chateau Flight adds an easygoing groove and some
discreet electric keyboards to the song. Later in the album, the Anglo-
Brazilian group Da Lata presents the song as a bit of contemporary acid-
jazz, with fleshed-out vocal and instrumental arrangements and half-
glimpsed wisps of electronics. Finally, King Britt weighs in from his
Philly studio with a relaxed funk/dance version of the tune. Some simple
but effective remixing of Bebel Gilberto's vocals give this production a
fresh and elegant sound, even at the end of an hour-plus of Gilberto
remixes.

"Nitin has been comissioned to write the score and incidental music for
the new Raymond Briggs' animation Ivor The Invisible. Work is ongoing and
the 30-minute animated film - produced by Screen First - is due to be
screened on Channel 4TV on Christmas Eve 2001.
Briggs, of course, is world-famous for his previous animated films such as
The Bear, When the Wind Blows and The Snowman.
Included will be a new song - The Kite - which features Smoke City's Nina
Rocha Miranda (Nina is an occasional member of Nitin's touring band as
well as being featured on two tracks on Prophesy)."

expresses their creativity. We consider ourselves lucky to have been asked
to apply our skills to some excellent tracks, and have enjoyed the
opportunity to have fun and experiment with them. The challenge is one of
finding new rhythem and harmony without betraying the soul of the
original, it's important to keep that connection.
Some of these tracks date back to our early days and were made with
minimal resources in the front room with live instruments recorded in the
corridor! We've also included "Ponteio" which was a breakthough tune for
us, and though not a remix it actually started out as one. And then
there's "Golden" and entirely new tune and totally "live", with
contributions from a couple of brilliant Brazilians.
We hope this collection works for you not just as a compilation or an
archive of our work as remixers but as a listening experience in it's own
right. It also tells some of our story and celebrates the work of the many
artists, musicians and creative spirts who've contributed along the way.

Hajime Yoshizawa is the keyboard maestro whose playing graces the work of
Kyoto Jazz Massive, Cosmic Village and Sleepwalker. He's a tireless
creative spirit, and for a pianist has remarkably small hands which
contrast with his big talent. This song was co-written with Chris Franck
and Nina Miranda [aka Smoke City] who, due to the vagaries of the music
biz, ended up signing away their credits for I Am With You, so I just
thought I'd take the opportunity of putting the matter straight. Anyway,
beware this tune is wickedly catchy, almost annoyingly so, you'll find the
melody keeps running around your brain."

Golden is by Da Lata, a project I'm proud to be a part of. Working with
the formidably gifted Chris Franck, we started Da Lata around '94. This
tune actually goes back to our previoius project Batu, so it's a ten year
old vintage! Anyway when we were putting together our remixes compilation
it seemed the perfect opportunity to record this piece, to add as a little
something extra and fresh (?) from us. Having spent plenty time refining
and mixing down this mini-epic, Golden was ripe for a remix to add to the
promo twelve. To cut a long story short, Bugz In The Attic came through
with this wonderful mix, blending swinging broken beats and new
instrumentation around the original melodies. The mix was everything I
could have hoped for!"

Da Lata's & Tates Place Chris Franck.

The second exclusive on the album yet again from Marc Brown. This time
though he flies completely solo with an off beat monster of a tune. A Hip
Hop groove slown down, speeded up, some off the wall sounds plus a cheeky
Ella Fitzgerald sample.
Tates Place "Burnin" KIRK DE GIORGIO's AS ONE REMIX
This remix came out on a limited edition 10" and recieved massive props
from all circles. Where Jazzanova turned the song into a dancefloor
friendly mix, Kirk takes a step back & takes the song on a trip to Africa.
Keeping the down tempo flava but adding all sorts of sounds. This is late
night listening!"
