The Vectis Searchers Club.

About Us

We are a group of people who regularly brave the elements in pursuit of our hobby. Our membership numbers are small, totalling approximately 20 members. We meet on the first Monday in every month, at the Officers Club, in Camp Hill, in Newport on the Isle of Wight. Meetings start at 7:30pm and end when the last person leaves. As you may detract from this, we are not a very officious club, we keep no minutes of meetings, and have no restriction on membership numbers. In fact, you would be right to assume that we are just a group of detecting enthusiasts who meet once a month in the pub to show each other what we have found.
The Isle of Wight is situated just off the South coast of England, and is quite a detectorist’s paradise in that most of the Island is open farmland and, being an Island, it is also surrounded by beaches.
Many of the beaches can tell stories of the holiday makers that have visited them, and before them, the soldiers who landed and possibly fought on them, back further to the smugglers who used to come ashore with their contraband on them. There are also many tales of various shipwrecks around the Island, and so you would think that we wouldn’t bother with the farmland so much.
That is until you learn that, although the Island has been cut off from the mainland for thousands of years, it has always been inhabited. The fields and ancient footpaths of the Island tell the stories of earlier times and people.
We have a couple of members who have gained search permission from a farmer, for the whole club to have rallies on his land. We also intend visiting the agricultural shows in the summer to show our finds and hopefully gain more search permission for more farms.
Now we’re just hoping for the big find.
