The French Resistence

In 1939 the French and the British finally declared war on Germany
Hitler had been spoiling for a fight
Invading one country after another
The Germans were prepared for war
They eased their way through Holland and Belgium
Were the French ready to resist?
They were overrun by German tanks and superior tactics
Soon German troops were marching into Paris
The French government collapsed and agreed terms
They moved to Vichy and formed a pro-German government
Jews were rounded up and forced into ghettos
Their movements were controlled and they were treated abominably
Not all The French caved in
The Resistence movement started to grow led by De Gaulle
The Underground network was put into operation
And a system of communication was established
The Resistence grew in numbers
And with the support of the British and the Americans
And members of the commonwealth
A counter attack was started up
Soon the Germans were on the backfoot
And forced back to Berlin
Hitler knew the end had come and took his own life
The reign of Fascism was brought to an end
The Germans acknowledged the error of their ways
And a fair peace was put together
The whole of western Europe established democracies
And established closer contacts between all of them
Now the Germans and French are good friends
And everybody benefits from good relations
Tyranny has to be resisted at all costs
But a fair peace has to be agreed
An old enmities forgotten
Nobody wins in a time of war
