HALLOWEEN 2000
The Halloween Fancy Dress Party was an almost ideal opportunity for me to show myself in a public place. I didn't opt for a glamorous look, as if I had a choice!
I thought I'd go reasonably low key, and see what the reaction would be.
I'd already worked out, more or less, what I'd wear. I went for a little black dress which ended just below my knees... nothing provocative. I also opted for tights rather than stockings and suspenders.... comfort comes first, I thought. (I had also experimented with false eye lashes earlier in the week, but gave up on them as being too tricky to apply.) To finish things off I borrowed a black cardigan, as I didn't want to show too much bare flesh, and also borrowed a black handbag. Last thing was some red horns so I could relate my costume to Halloween, more or less, and I was away.
I arrived at the pub a little later than I'd meant to, as I'd forgotten just how long it can take to apply nail polish. I was still there sooner than most, so it gave me a chance to settle down a bit. I also decided to stick with red wine, rather than my usual pints of Greene King IPA, as I didn't fancy too many trips to the Gents toilets.
I tried to behave as normally as possible... whatever that is... and gradually as my friends, and other characters, turned up, everything went very well.
Yes, I did surprise them by my appearance, but everyone took it in good spirit. And anyway, I was surrounded by all sorts of weird looking characters, so I was in good company. I must say I really did enjoy myself.
It wasn't until afterwards that I realised just how "touchy feely" I had been with the women there that evening. It wasn't a conscious thing, but I think that as I was dressed it just came naturally.
I received a lot of compliments during the evening, although some suggested that I should have gone for bigger breasts! And one or two said I should keep my knees together when walking, as I was getting a bit bandy. But I could put that down to the red wine!

One funny moment was after a little dance with a lady friend, I then found myself approached by her husband, and ended up briefly dancing with him. Well that hasn't happened before.
The pictures I've uploaded don't show me at my best, but then I'm never entirely satisfied with my appearance. There was also a lot of red eye in the images. But somehow, for Halloween, it actually seems appropriate.
What I hadn't expected was the grilling that I received from certain quarters since the event. I always like to be honest with people, and I'm a lousy liar. So I have to measure my responses like an experienced politician. When I'm asked if I am a transvestite or cross-dresser, I should just say yes, and get it over and done with. So why do I hesitate? I'm such a coward.
The general consensus of opinion, afterwards, was that I looked a lot better as a woman than a man, which I'll take as a compliment, I think.
Anyway, thinking the whole thing over, would I do it again? Yes. You bet. I'd do it every weekend if I could. I should have done this years ago.
But when will the next chance come along?
