Kevin M. Griffin
Retired principal of Ballina National School.
Kevin is a native of Doolin Co. Clare, and in 1966, after teaching in Dublin, England and Wicklow, took the position of principal in Ballina, where he taught until his retirement in 1994.
Over the years he has played an active role in many local activities, ranging from competitive drama and school concerts, to parish fund-raising. He is well known throughout the parish, not least for his skill as a painter.
Kevin has always been interested in the people and the history of the parish. In this book he illustrates his breadth of local knowledge, not just academic learning, but also his own personal insights gained over the years.

Kevin was raised in Ballina, attending the primary school where his parents taught. After attending secondary school in Killaloe, he trained as a primary teacher and then worked as a historical researcher in Killaloe. Having undertaken postgraduate work at NUI Maynooth, and the Dublin Institute of Technology, Kevin now works in the Department of Geography, University College Dublin, where he teaches courses on tourism and historical geography. He has published articles and books on various topics.
In the production of this book with his father, he uses his many skills ranging from academic geographical training, to photography and computing.

Father and son have enjoyed planning and composing this book. They hope it provides enjoyment and interest in Ballina / Boher during the millennium year, and for many years to come.
