Star Interviews

Q: Thenkasipattanam was a blockbuster movie in Malayalam and then as Hanumaan junction in Telugu, and now it is being released in Tamil too. The story is the main element that plays as a foundation of a movie. Were you not apprehensive about the fact that it was already known story to the masses?
Sarath Kumar: The success of a good story depends on how it is being told in the script and it does not matter if the story is already known to the masses. It is true that the film was a mega box office hit in Malayalam and Telugu. But it is still relatively a new subject to the Tamil audiences. Thenkasipattanam in Tamil in which I star with Napolean has been made bearing in mind what the Tamil audience expect out an village based action film.

Q: What was it about Thenkasipattanam that made you go for the remake? Was it the storyline or the directors? What was it that convinced you about Thenkasipattanam?
Sarath Kumar: The way in which a film is being directed or made is as important as the storyline. Adept direction and a strong storyline both are inevitable for the success of a movie. As an artiste one has to look at the movie from different perspectives and consider a lot things before you decide to take up a project and one cannot overlook either of it. Of course it was both the storyline and the way the director handled the script that makes me feel so confident about this movie.

Q: While little is known about your recently announced project Aasan, the films Manasthan, Samasthanam including Thenkasipattanam seem to be village oriented action films. Is it because there has of recent been a dearth of films in such a genre? Any particular reason for films in such a line or it just happened like that?
Sarath Kumar: I don't have any preferences about rustic or urban storylines, what matters is the storyline. It should be convincing enough for me to do the film. There are no sentiments attached or neither was it planned, it just happened like that, that both Samasthanam and Thenkasipattanam are village based films.

Q: Thenkasipattanam is a dual hero subject and so is Samasthanam. For one of the leading heroes you didn't mind signing up in a two-hero based film. Not many would do such a thing for various other reasons? What made you give the nod to it boldly?
Sarath Kumar: When you are confident about the role and the extent to which you can deliver it or do justice to it, it shouldn't matter if it is a dual hero subject. When the script demands two heroes, there is no threat in taking up the role. Ultimately one will be judged by the audience on their own performance and not others. It was the script that made me to give a nod.

Q: Tell us about your most recently signed film Aasan?
Sarath Kumar: It is too early for me to say anything about the film. It is very much in its "zygotic" stage. All I can tell you now is that it's a home production movie.

Q: Your film Pugazh which was scheduled to be released long ago, still seems to be on its way. What happened? Why the long delay?
Sarath Kumar: The movies have been scheduled to release one film at a time or after a couple of months. Following Thenkasipattanam, Manasthan will be released and then Pugazh will happen eventually.

Q: How do you find time juggling between your film career and your role as a Member of the Parliament? Are you able to do the balancing act? Which one of it demands most of your time?
Sarath Kumar: Yes it is a bit difficult handling two different professions or I would rather say passions and thereby justifying my role and responsibility in both the fields but I am learning to give my best shot at both. I try to adjust the call sheets for my films and try to give an equal share my time for both.

Q: You have a very elaborate, exhaustive, elaborate and interactive official website rskworld.com. You are obviously using the Internet medium to reach out to your fans? What was it intended more for? Sarath Kumar the supreme star or Sarath Kumar the M.P.?
Sarath Kumar: It was a website for fans and the general public who want to know anything and everything about me, Sarath Kumar the star or politician, father, son and husband. It was basically a reach out to all near and far.
