20/8/03     UFC 44 (Septemeber 26th) sees the unification of the Light Heavyweight Belts . Tito Ortiz was too injured/scared to face Chuck Liddell but is more than happy to fight Randy Couture for the belt in the main event which takes place in late September.

03/8/03     PRIDE 26 saw Mark Coleman beat Don Frye AGAIN. Mirko Filipovic vs Heath Herring  was a great fight with Mirko being a great K-1 standup fighter but here he beat a top 5 MMA fighter. Expect Mirko to be fighting for the Heavyweight belt SOON.

Fedor Emelianenko vs Kazuyuki Fujita was also great. The new champ found it hard going against the experienced japanese fighter but won through in the end.

PRIDE 25 was a great event. Randleman and Jackson collided for the right to face Vanderlei Silva for the Pride Middleweight Championship and Jackson won by KO. He then called out Vanderlei who jumped on stage and started a brawl with Jackson. Great.

Fedor Emelianenko  vs Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira for the Heavyweight Title did happen at Pride 25 and finally the great man lost. Fedor was brilliant at Ground and Pound and Nog had no answer. Sakuraba continued his dissapointing fall from greatness by being KO'ed by third rate brazilian fighter Nino Schrembri. The end for Sak???? Of course not, instead he gets another shot at Middleweight Champ!!

UFC 43- Tito Ortiz chickened out of a fight with long standing NO.1 contender because of injury trouble (*cough cough*) talks with WWF etc... so former heavyweight champion Randy Couture stepped in to face and beat Chuck for the "Interim" title, whatever that means. Tank fought Kimo in a grudge match, Vitor Belfort made a dramatic comeback in the octagon and Matt Lindland managed to knock himself out.

Fedor vs Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira for the Heavyweight Title didn't happen at P ride 24 , instead Nog beat Dan Henderson the only man to have beaten him in his MMA career.

Pride 23 saw Fedor Emelianenko vs Heath Herring for the right to fight Nogueira for the Heavyweight Title. Fedor demoliseh the younger opponent.

Pride slowed down after Shockwave. Pride 22 was a slow burner, main news that Igor Vov lost to Jackson. Kevin Randleman went on a 3 match winning streak after joining Pride. Jackson and Randleman would collide at Pride 25 for the right to face Vanderlei Silva

Ricco Rodriguez took over the UFC title at UFC 39 but lost it to giant Tim Sylvia by KO at UFC 41 . Matt Hughes succesfully defended his belt against Sean Sherk at UFC 42 .

UFC 41 also saw the return of David "TANK" Abbott as he faced Frank Mir.

Pride ShockWave was huge!! Don Frye got Ko'ed, Sakuraba lost to Cro Cop and Royce Gracie was cheated out of a victory by a dubious decision. But the fight of the night was Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira  vs Bob Sapp for the Heavyweight Title. Sapp almost killed him in the first few seconds and pounded Nogueira, but Nog got the victory in the end in one of the most exciting fights of all time.

UFC 40 went off with a bang, the main event between Ken Shamrock and Light-Heavyweight Champion Tito Ortiz was a grudge match, but a rather one sided affair with Tito coming off best. Matt Hughes Defended his title with ease and surely is the best pound for pound fighter in the world.

29/08/02  UFC 40's
main event has been announced and it is a big one. Current Light-Heavyweight Champion Tito Ortiz renews his bitter rivalry with Lion's den fighters (see videos UFC 12-22)  and takes on the King of the Pride Ken Shamrock . Both fighters hate each other and have done since Tito's second fight with Guy Metzger at UFC 19 when Tito wore a T-shirt saying "Gay Metzger".

tito

Tito Ortiz has held the UFC Middleweight belt since UFC 25 when he won a fight with Vanderlei Silva . Defending it against fighters such as Tanner and Sinosic, he was then meant to face Vitor Belfort at UFC 36 but injury to both Belfort and Tito ruled this fight out. Now Tito returns to the Octagon to face surely his biggest challenge since fighting Ken's brother Frank Shamrock at UFC 22.

s

Ken Shamrock is one of the biggest names in the world of fighting. Taking part in 3 UFC tournaments (UFC1,3 + UU96) he was also UFC superfight champion from UFC 6-9. He then departed to the world of Pro Wrestling (WWF). Ken returned in dramatic form in the Pride Grand Prix knocking out Alexander Ostuka and fought a good fight with Kazayuki Fujita before gassing. Ken returned in Pride 19 to take part in one of the biggest MMA fights ever againts Don Frye . Now he sets his sights firmly on the UFC belt and aims to regain what he considers to be rightfully his.

UFC 40 is due to take place in November.

24/8/02
The next big events are UFC 39 and Pride 22 right?? NO. Pride has announced an AMAZING card which will take place before Pride 22 called PRIDE SHOCKWAVE. The biggest fighters in the MMA world today are taking part. Don Frye is facing K-1 Kickboxing Champion Mark Hunt, Japanese fighting Legend Kazushi Sakuraba (the man who beat 4 Gracies) returns to the ring to face Mirko Cro Cop Filipov.

n
Antonio Nogueira vs Bob Sapp

Also the Heavyweight Championship is on the line as Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira faces the giant Bob Sapp and also Middleweight Champion Vanderlei Silva Fights.

royce
Hidehiko Yoshida vs Royce Gracie

But the fight on everyones lips is the challenge match between former Olympic Judo Champion Hidehiko Yoshida and Brazilian Legend Royce Gracie . Royce won 3 of the first 4 UFC tournaments and returned 2 years ago to fight in the Pride Grand Prix. This is his first fight since that tournament and while some doubted he'd ever fight again, Royce has returned to follow in his father's footsteps and take on a Judo Champion.

The card/special rules read as follows:

Vanderlei Silva vs Jerrel Venetiaan, PRIDE Rules (5 min x 3 Rounds)
