Welcome to my new Opera Page!

The old one was my pride and joy, until it was deleted by idiots at Geocities.
It will be a while before it's restored to its former glory - but eventually I hope it will be better than before!

Meanwhile, let DIVA KITTY KATZ entertain you.

You may also like to visit the OPERA CHAT ROOM. I am usually here on Sundays between midday and 1700 hrs. GMT, but of course anyone can use it whenever they like! (To discuss opera.)

I am proud to say that I have received some AWARDS for this page - click here to see them!

The new season after the rebuilding started for me with GAWAIN by Harrison Birtwistle. (I wasn't able to get tickets for the opening gala, so my partner was unable to carry out his dastardly plot to sellcopies of SOCIALIST WORKER in the Vilar Floral Hall!)

I had only ever seen the video before - and now I have seen the real thing, I can say that GAWAIN is one of the best operas by a living composer I have yet seen.
What I was especially impressed by was the TURNING OF THE SEASONS sequence, during which Gawain is prepared and armed for his journey. The stage sets were based on the Seasons from the Tres Riches Heures du Duc de Berry, and I've reproduced a couple here, just to give you an idea.

I love contemporary music!! (as you will probably have gathered....) Apart from Harrison Birtwistle, one of the contemporary composers I am most interested in is JUDITH WEIR

They had some wonderful productions in the 1999-2000 season - I particularly enjoyed their production of PETER GRIMES.

The 2000-2001 season - was devoted to Italian opera, including, I am delighted to say, IL PRIGIONERO by Luigi Dallapiccola

Fortunately, I am Fidelio, as I always wanted to be.

You are La Boheme!

What Opera Are You?
brought to you by Quizilla

marschallin
You are the Marschallin!Rich, elegant and idle, you like your boys barely
legal. If he leaves you for something younger,
shrug, quip "Ja, ja" and move on with
your life.

Which operatic heroine are you?
brought to you by Quizilla

Don Giovanni
The opera that is most like your life is "Don
Giovanni" by Mozart. You are always
flirting, and no one of the oposite sex ever
knows when to take you seriously. You end up
paying dearly for this!

Which opera is most like your life?

Pitti-Sing
You are Pitti-Sing. You are popular and attrative,
and full of fun. You are not afraid of a
little excitement and adventure, and are not
easily discouraged. You always keep your sense
of humor, and people like you. You are
destined for great things, and will go far.

Which character from THE MIKADO are you?
brought to you by Quizilla

La Traviata
You are Violetta, from Verdi's 'La Traviata'. You
are an elite upperclass slut (courtesan) who
settles down with a guy that you end up having
to leave, because simply put, you're a
slut..always and forever. So you wind up with a
broken heart, and then you die of pulmonary
tuberculosis. Sorry.

Which character in an Opera do you identify with the most
brought to you by Quizilla

primavera
Well, I am sorry to say this, but you are not even
worth the position of "2nd
violinist". You are the lowest of the low,
the scummiest of the scum! You are...A
CONDUCTOR!..Might I suggest retaking this quiz
immediately and not answering honestly to
prevent this from EVER happening again.

What instrumentalist were you born to be?
brought to you by Quizilla

Euterpe2
~Euterpe~Your muse is Euterpe, the Giver of Pleasure.
Contrary to what I'm sure your mind has just
leapt to (get it out of the gutter!), she is
the muse of Music. Her symbol is the flute.
You like most kinds of music, and like to sing
and probably compose a little bit when you're
alone.

Which of the Nine Muses is your muse?
brought to you by Quizilla

If I were a dead Russian composer I would be Igor Stravinsky.

Known as a true son of the 20th. century, my music started out as melodic and folky but slowly got more dissonant and bizarre as I aged. I am a traveller and a neat freak, and very much hated those rotten eggs thrown at me after the premiere of THE RITE OF SPRING.

Who would yoube? Dead Russian Composer Personality Test
