Deb's review

Part One – Saturday Morning

Well, where do I start?  Does it start with the concert?  Or before that, the CD signing?  What about the beginning of the day, finding out about this trip, or even discovering Michael Ball in the first place?  Perhaps I should start with last Saturday for now...…

6am:  The alarm goes off and I am very temped to turn over, switch it off and go back to sleep.  But no, I can’t, IT’S MICHAEL DAY!!  I jump out of bed and am suddenly hit with the fact that the night before I had been so excited that I had needed to wind down at the local pub with some friends before I burst.  The result was that my packing left a lot to be desired!  So I start again.  Pack everything that I can think of and more.

6.30am:  Maureen rings to tell me she is on the road to Sydney.  I’m going to be seeing her for the first time soon.  Her and all the other people I have been corresponding with over the Internet for the last 18 months.  FINALLY I am going to meet these people!

7am: Tammy and Matt pick me up (thank you SO much guys for the lift :) and we’re on our way.  Really on our way.  The excitement hits me in a way that I am not expecting.  And I fall asleep!  I sleep most of the way but once we hit Sydney I wake and am rearing to go.

10.30am:  Margaret rings from the que at David Jones (and the ringtone sounds out the familiar ditty of ‘Love Changes Everything’): “Where are you??!”
“Margaret, is he there yet, is he there yet???”
“No, not until 11 o’clock, but where are you?”
“Driving through Sydney.  Almost there, see you soon!”

11am:  Tammy and I run through the front door of David Jones and Michael is suddenly there.  Right there.  There is no one between him and I.  And he’s only a metre away.  My legs tremble, my knees knock.  I can see Michael!  With my very own two eyes.  What a wonderful way to set up the signing, Michael is arranged at the front door with the que heading down into the store.  I spend a minute getting snap happy (well, he’s so close!) and then go and line up.  The line is so long.  We are right down the very end with so many people in front.  Is Michael going to get to us?  PLEASE please please!!  Penny Dennison makes a few announcements down the front.  They are very impressed by the turnout; it’s much bigger than expected.  Michael really can only stay for an hour, but he’s going to get through everyone.  I swear this is the longest hour of my life.  The girls behind us in the que have just flown in from Brisbane and still have all her luggage.  No one can say that Michael fans aren’t devoted!
My phone rings.  'Love Changes Everything' sounds out again.  I’ve never seen so many heads turn so fast.

11.45am:  Now, who can I recognise?  That’s GOT to be Margaret, I’ve seen so many pictures, I couldn’t miss her.  Is that Connie?  Could be….. That must be Nick over there.  I think!  Lets just look for the t-shirts.  But there are so many people in Michael t-shirts.  These fans are really making an effort!

11.55am:  The line eventually gets closer and I’m only a couple of people away from Michael.  My hands are a blur from shaking so much.  There’s Margaret again, looks like she is trying to set up her camera.  Oh wonderful, she has just offered to take our pictures with Michael.  That makes life easier.  Its time…..argh….um…umm…..go!
“H..hi Michael.  Thank you SO much for coming!”
“It’s a pleasure Darling, I’m loving it here”
“Could you…..do the autograph thing for me please?”
(Did I just say that?!  OH!)
“Of course!  Gimme that”
(the photo that is)
“Oh Michael, I’ll just come around here, thanks for this, its that camera over there”
“Thank you so much Michael, I’ll see you at the concert tonight, Michael you’re brilliant”
(oh, why can’t I think of something clever to say!)
“A pleasure Darling, have fun tonight (wink)”

12.05pm:  I just met Michael; I just met Michael, I JUST MET MICHAEL!!  He called me ‘darling’, and winked at me.  I am a wobbling piece of jelly.  Take more pictures, take more pictures……
The security guard asks us to move on so we walk around the back of people and end up behind a group of people.
“Deb?”
Ok, so I was right, it IS Nick!
Suddenly everyone is introducing themselves and the make-up department of David Jones becomes a family reunion.
