Darkman in various different disguises, in the less than exact levels
Comments:
A Side scrolling platform game vaguely based on the movie. You play Darkman who is out for revenge. Darkman gets his revenge by jumping around brightly coloured levels punching all sorts of enemies. Did I say the game was vaguely based on the film? Each level is sort of based on a scene from the film, except for the second level which is set in Central Park, but the design and enemies have little to do with the film. For the fourth level Darkman follows Skip to a fun fair, ok so far. Skip goes into a fun house so Darkman follows, getting iffy. The level then has Darkman (disguised as Skip) jumping around inside a purple fun house, leaping on springs and blasting pie throwing clowns with a bazooka! Not too much like the film huh? There are inbetween levels where you take as many pictures of a certain bad guy as you can so you can make a good mask to use in the next stage. There are also two stages based on the helicopter sequence. That's right in the game it happens twice. I could over look all this if the controls weren't so bad. Jumping from a standing position will only get you a tiny distance but if you are even slightly moving you leap across the whole screen! This makes jumping from place to place very tricky and had me swearing at the screen in annoyance! Not a very good game at all. Might have been worth playing if it weren't for the awful controls.

Format: Amstrad CPC

Year: 1991
Comments: Different to the NES game. Predominantly a scrolling beat-em-up. First level takes place in china town (a scene 45 mins into the film) here you must kill all the baddies on the screen before continuing to the next. This level also contains enemy ninjas, remember them in the film? Next up you need to get out of your warehouse hideout via the roof. This is done by climbing ladders and jumping platforms while fending off the army of thugs. Next level has Darkman running for his life over the roofs while Durrant drops grenades on him from a helicopter. Survive this and you go inside your warehouse again this time to reach the ground, set a bomb and then get back out the roof again before the place blows. The last two levels go; control Darkman as he hangs under the helicopter and then climb the scaffolding to the top to rescue Julie from Strack. In-between some levels you have a photo taking sub game like the NES version. Take as many pictures of the gangster as you can and if they are good enough you make a mask of him which allows you to be ignored by the enemy for a limited time.
