We will not be afraid.
Everyone, everywhere is still talking about the tragedy which took place on September 11, 2001.
And everyone is just now starting to talk about getting on with their lives.
But the question is, will our lives ever be the same again.
Well, I agree. We must get on with our lives, in what ever shape or form it takes from here on out.
But I also think there is something that we must do in the next few days to come.
We need to realize what the friends of families of the victims must be feeling right now.
We must send them our wishes, compassion and support. We must stand beside them.
But what's more than that... we must not be afraid.
The friends and families of the victims will never see their loved ones again. And for that
we are all deeply saddened. But it is for this reason that we must hold our children a little tighter,
and tell them we love them. Make sure they understand that you would do anything for them.
Today, give your spouse/significant other a kiss before they leave the house, before
they go to sleep and when they wake up beside you. Tell them how lucky you are to be with them. Tell
them everything you would tell them, if in fact you knew that tomorrow, you would never see them again.
Call your best friend, and tell them that they are your best friend, and you thank them for it with all your
heart. Tell all your friends, how much you appreciate having them with you.
Maybe you already have a significant other, or someone you know who does... and you're afraid of what kind of trouble it
could cause to express your true feelings for that other person. Do it anyway, with the understanding that you felt that
they just had to know.
If there is someone that you feel you are in love with, but haven't been able to share your feelings
with.. tell them you love them. To often, we are afraid that we will ruin the already great friendship, or
feel afraid that if they don't feel the same way back, that you could be very embarrassed, or
that you feel afraid to just show your emotions at all.
Well, today... you can't be afraid. You can't be afraid today... because they might not be there tomorrow.
And you'll never get another chance.
Today more than any other, we realize that a lot can happen in a very short time, at the most unexpected time.
Today, we will not be afraid to hold up our nations flag, no matter what nation we're in... we will not be afraid to stand up
against tyranny and oppression and terrorism... we will not be afraid to live out our lives as free as we always have...
and we will not be afraid to say... "I love you".
