Tyne & Wear Museums
Tyne and Wear Museums (TWM) runs 11 museums and art galleries attracting about one million visits per year. It is funded by five local authorities (Newcastle, Gateshead, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Sunderland), the University of Newcastle and central government through the Museums and Galleries Commission. TWM is one of the largest and most cost-effective local authority services in Britain and has won 37 awards over the last 5 years, particularly for its work in education and in provision for people with disabilities. The mission of TWM is to help improve the quality of life of all people living in the region, regardless of age, background and ability.
