HOPKINSON, Goalkeeper Third-choice goalkeeper at the beglnning
of last season, Durham-born Hopkinson proved a brilliant success from the
moment he was introduced to the Senior Team. Earning England " B
" recognition for the European Tour last summer, he gained full

ROY
HARTLE, Right Back This is a great day for this
product of the Birmingham district. In 1953 he played in every round, and

against Blackpool. A big,
strong defender, he was playing with Bromsgrove Rovers while in the
Services, and was given a trial by Bolton at that time. Age 26. Height 5
ft. 11in., weight 12 st. 10 Ib. |

TOMMY
BANKS, Left Back A strong-tackling defender who
uses the ball well. Tommy is a local boy who made good, graduating through
the Club's Junior teams and signing professional at 17. Completes a family
double today, for it was his brother Ralph, whom he succeeded, who filled
the identical position in Wanderers' last Wembley appearance. Age 28.

JOHN
HIGGINS, Centre Half Winning his place four years
ago, it was not until this season that Higgins became the Club's regular
pivot. Born at Buxton, he joined Wanderers from a Derbyshire Junior Club.

Army sides during his service with the Army of Occupation in Germany,
24-year-old John is also a fine golfer, who figures prominently in the
Professional Footballers' Championship.

BRYAN
EDWARDS, Left Half A native of Leeds,
27-year-old Edwards is another Bolton Junior Team product. A regular
member of the First XI for four years, he is the next player to his
captain in point of service and ranks as the Club's most versatile
performer. Known to his team-mates as " Slim," because of his
spare frame, he is nevertheless a fine tackier, and is good with his head.

BRIAN
BIRCH, Outside Right Southport-born 19-year-old
Birch is the baby of the Bolton side, but his keenness and tenacity more
than compensate for his youth. Played with Southport Boys, and then, like
so many of his team-mates, graduated through Bolton's Junior sides to win
a regular First-team spot this season.
At present serving in the R.A.F. Height 5 ft. 7 in., weight 10 st. |

STEVENS, Inside Right A native of Dudley,
Staffordshire, Stevens arrived at Burnden Park as a 15-year-old from
Worcester Boys, and has been first choice for his present position since
he took over from Willie Moir, Bolton's 1953 Wembley captain, four years
ago. Tough, compact, and a bundle of dynamite, he is well-known for his
fast break-through and strong shot in either foot, like his cousin, the
late Duncan Edwards, of Manchester United.

B," and represented the Football League this season. Height 5 ft.

and holds the record for any English International centre-forward.
Fast, fearless, unrivalled in the art of execution of the
match-winning header, Lofthouse has scored more than 350 goals for his
Club, and is one of the few professionals playing to have scored more than

Triallist, and made his debut in 1951. Considered one of the cleverest
dribblers in English football. Height 5 ft. 8 in., weight 10 st. 5 Ib. |
