RON YEATS, Centre Half (Captain)
Yeats joined the Merseysiders from Dundee United in the summer of
1961, and has never been out of the team since except when injured. A
massive figure, with seemingly " telescopic " legs which enable
him to drag the ball back from forwards who think they have passed him,
Yeats commands the penalty box in dominant fashion, and is rarely beaten
in the air—or on the ground for that matter. Commanding figure, weighs
14 st. 2 Ib. and is 6 ft. 2 in. |
|
BILL
STEVENSON, Left Half Another Scot, born at
Leith, Stevenson played several times for Scotland's schoolboy team, then

professional career with Motherwell, his native town, and joined Liverpool
in May 1961, scoring three goals against Everton in a Liverpool Senior Cup
final a few days later. A very talented ball player, is Liverpool's main
schemer and provider, a man who can split an opposing defence in a
twinkling with his slide-rule passes. Played his 150th League game for
Liverpool recently, and made his 21st appearance for Scotland at Wembley
last month. Has also played for the Llnder-23 team and the Scottish League
eleven. Height: 5 ft. 8 in. Weight: 11 st. 13 Ib. |
|
TOMMY
SMITH, Inside Left Another Liverpool-born
player and a former Liverpool Schoolboy star. Smith has made remarkably
rapid strides this season. Previously he had had only one senior game, in
May 1963, and when the current campaign began was only third choice for
the seniors. After four games last September he dropped out for three
months, but since being recalled in December has justified himself
splendidly. Often plays a "
backward " role, filling in when Milne switches to attack. Has a very
strong shot. Height: 5 ft. 1(H m- Weight: 13 st. 5 Ib. |
|
PETER
THOMPSON, Outside Left Starting his career with

transferred to Liverpool at a club-record fee in August 1963, and has been
worth every penny of it. Has played for England at Under-23 level and in
eleven full internationals, and has missed only two League games—one for
each club— since making his debut for Preston. Height: 5 ft. 8 in.
