F.A. Cup Winners
|

1970 -
Chelsea |
The 1970 final saw a hard-fought affair between
Chelsea and Leeds United which saw the first Final replay for nearly 60 years.
The replay was held at Old Trafford and Chelsea went on to win 2-1 with a goal
in extra time from David Webb.

1971
- Arsenal |
Charlie
George, 20 years old and Islington-born, scored from 25 yards to
complete the League and Cup double for Arsenal - a spectacular
postscript to an oven-hot afternoon in which all the goals came in
extra-time. George, with his lanky frame and drooping
socks, then did a somersault and flopped to the ground. Arsenal
had clinched the League title five days before by winning a Tottenham,
a triumph for steely resolution and collective efficiency.

1972
- Leeds United
|
The
Cup celebrates its centenary - The two managers Bertie Mee and Don
Revie led Arsenal and Leeds United onto the pitch through an avenue of
flags representing a century of Cup winners. A Leeds banner was
conspicuously absent; but two hours later, the Yorkshire club had won
the Cup for the first time, achieved with a goal by Allan Clarke early
in the second-half.

1973
- Sunderland |
Sunderland
were the first Second Division club to win the Cup for 42 years: a
miracle, it was generally agreed, of dishwater into champagne
proportions. Leeds were one of Europe's most formidable teams,
every one of their players an international, but Sunderland scored
after half-an-hour - Ian Porterfield driving the ball through a
cluster of players - and then, with goalkeeper Jim Montgomery in
outstanding form, deflected everything Leeds could throw at them.
