Initially when the team is formed, it is important to get a well-rounded group of people who clearly represent the different areas and groups that make up the grand mosaic that transforms the company into a single unified unit. It is also very important for the Committee Director to clearly lay down the ground rules and inform all personal involved in the chain of command and its proper use. This should help promote 'group synergy' and give the group direction to minimize many of the possible issues that might creep into the constructive workings of the on-going project. The Committee Director will most certainly follow the five-stage team development model. This model includes: Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing and Adjourning to help promote a high degree of success to the project.
A critical aspect of the formulation of any team or committee is the first project team meeting. The first team meeting sets the tone for how the team will work together. If it is disorganized, or becomes bogged down with little sense of closure, then this can often become a self-fulfilling prophecy for subsequent group work (Gray 103). On the other hand, if it is crisply run, focusing on real issues and concerns in an honest and straightforward manner, members come away excited about being part of the project team (103).
