The Thing Is..... Phoenix receives at present no cash funding at all from any public source, even though we are working hard to encourage the creation of work in an industry suffering from a chronic unemployment problem, and to supplement properly an education system that recognises that the general standards of literacy have fallen well below acceptable standards. We will only begin to achieve our goals with the help of the commercial sector in the form of sponsorship, either for individual productions and events or for the whole season.

The whole theatre season will include at least six texts being studied at examination level (GCSE and/or A level) including at least three major interpretations of works by William Shakespeare (we have already produced The Tempest, Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth) and contemporary modern dramas.

If that wasn't enough, we will be producing our own original productions like the musicals The Lamp, Humbug! (adapted from Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol), and many more both live and on film (see our Work in Development page) and regular music, dance and comedy nights to really get the company moving and offer as many opportunities to unutilised talent as possible. There are also plans to start a youth theatre and run courses and workshops in many different performance skills.

We are hoping, once we have found the sponsorship that will allow us to set up a venue residency, to be working very closely with both Education Authorities and teachers, and consulting with as many others as we can from outside to ensure that we will be working in the best possible way to achieve both artistic and educational excellence. We are also involved in talks with Employment Services, and hope soon to be the first entertainments based organisation to instigate New Deal programmes specifically for the arts.

As sponsors your company could be proud of all we will be achieving together to help the Education system by providing students with access to performances of productions they are studying at examination level, our efforts to solve the vast unemployment problems in the theatre and arts industry, and our regular support of children's charities through fund raising performances and donations from profits on our productions. You could, through our integration of study aids on the web with our performances and workshops, be projecting your presence into every school and home in London within the next twelve months.
