The last phase, the project driven organization looks far into the future. Responsibilities of managers at this stage include setting the strategy, developing a balanced project portfolio, and priorities. In this phase, everyone must working together as a team like workers in a honeybee colony. At this phase, the organizational structure has shifted toward a project matrix and project teams with dedicated resources (Gray 11). The training is constant and managers expect excellence. Final results from the projects usually surface between half a decade and an entire decade based on discipline and cooperation between members to manage and implement projects connected to the company's strategic plans.
It is interesting to note that these phases can occur at different times depending on the type and size of the company. To achieve quality performance and completion of projects, companies must develop skills and capabilities of every manager through training in project management. Project management today applies an integrative approach unlike the previous phases. Today, emphasis is placed on the "development of an integrated project management process that focuses all project effort toward the strategic plan of the organization and reinforces mastery of both the project management tools/techniques and the interpersonal skills necessary to orchestrate successful project completion" (Gray 12).
