Brief note about above map:

Rather than making a systematic survey of every town in Iran the site illustrations have been divided into seven sections or climes.  these have not been chosen with common climates or cultural affinities in mind, and the informed audience may notice some starting difference in weather and lifestyles within each clime. The seven climes of Iran are respectively northern Iran, the northwest, the west, central Iran, the south, the southeast, and the northeast. The division is somewhat arbitrary, as is the choice of monuments and towns mentioned with in. It is hoped however that such divisions and the site itself will provide the audience with an overall picture of land, its landscapes and historic heritage.
