Will be adding some new quotes in early March. Had no other inspirations as to what to write about. Hello, and a warm welcome to Siu Kai's Character Education Site. First, let me introduce myself; My name is Kaichong. Siu is my first name, or surname. You can call me Siu Kai, Kai, or Ayden. It doesn't matter. :o) The first question that may cross your mind is who the hell is this guy anyway? What qualifications does he has to talk about Character Education? Well, well, you want to talk about qualifications? Now, let me show or tell u my qualifications regarding the subject Character Education. I...er.. have none. Ha HA. I'm just a Student working on a Character Education project. This site is actually the project I'm refering to. It was done during April 2000. I put it up on the internet for fun and little did I expect that it would be seen by thousands all over the world. So, what the heck is Character Education all about? To simply put, Character education is education on character, how to be a better person. Simple enough? Can you become a better person after visiting my site? Well, that depends. I'm not God. This site is only a reference on Character education. It's not a HOW TO BE A BETTER PERSON IN 24 HOURS. Ha! So, let me give you a brief introduction to Character Education and why it is important in Singapore and all around the world.

Character Education (CE) is actually part of the syllabus in the Singapore Education system. It was only introduced a few years ago. Besides, wanting students to achieve good academic results, the government of Singapore would also like to develop students who have good values so that they can contribute to the society when they graduate.

The CE module serves to achieve one basic objective, that is to develop graduates who are imbued with sound values. It sets out to provide students with a greater awareness of sound values that will guide them through their lives, as individuals and in their dealings with their friends, family, neighbors and colleagues at work.
At the school where I am studying at, the Singapore Polytechnic, have identified 6 core values that form the basics of the module. The values are known in the acronym SP CORE.

They represent the following values:

S - Self-discipline
P - Personal integrity
C - Care and concern
O - Openness
R - Respect and responsibility
E - Excellence

By incorporating National Education into Character Education, this module also aims to provide students with a sense of identity, pride and self-respect as citizens of their country. By teaching the following underlying National Education messages through SP CORE values, the module also aims to instill the core values as a way of life that ensures continued success and well-being:

Commitment to the Nation

Racial and Religious Harmony; Service to the Nation

Self-reliance and Resilience for Survival

Meritocracy and Incorruptibility; Confidence in the Future

Character Education (though it is boring :o) is important as it will provide one with a strong moral ballast and will guide one in your daily living- as an individual, in your family and society, on campus, at work and at play.
