I
am not among those who get starry eyed and jelly kneed every time someone mentions
Marilyn Monroe, but her standing as 20th century myth and an icon of our time
interests me, and parts of her life story touches me strongly.
Besides,
getting closer to fifty than I like to think about, I grew up with Marilyn. I
can remember when the famous photo shots from the nude bathing scene hit the magazines
around the globe. Even in little Norway where I lived then and live now, these
images caused quite a commotion
And I can remember when
the publicity photos from "The Seven Year Itch" like the one to the right hit
the same magazines. And of course all the bathing suit black and whites of Marilyn
featured in the oh, so innocent girly magazines of my early youth. The ones that
I was not allowed to buy, but bought any way and hid in my room.
Its there,
all right, all part of my memories. The silk screens by Andy Warhol, the pinup
drawings by Vargas, the magazine articles, the movies and the news bulletins carrying
the story of her tragic death.
So as long as web design is both my trade
and my hobby, I thought making a few pages dedicated to the memory of Marilyn
Monroe would be worth its while.
