The Ambershades - "Clap Clap Clap"

You'd be forgiven for thinking that bands like the Ambershades don't exist anymore since the Silver Sun Anti-Major Label Indie Bands legislation of 1998. Simple fuzzed-up guitars, cheerfully half-arsed vocals, cursing their luck that it isn't 1995 and they can't go drinking in the Good Mixer with Menswear anymore, this album should be ripe for a kicking.

What saves "Clap Clap Clap" is that the Ambershades, credit to them, have an undeniable knack with catchy tunes that stick in your head. Tipping nods to everyone from the Bluetones (the title track) via Supergrass ("Bullet") and even early '90s Primal Scream ("Kicking And Screaming"), it's only the odd ill-advised venture into '70s AOR which really counts against this album.

The Ambershades aren't the future of any great new movement but for what it's worth, "Clap Clap Clap" is ten quid and thirty five minutes spent well enough.
