These are perilous times to be a pop-punk band. With the genre's stock seemingly dropping by the day and many of the scene's previous big hitters (Green Day, Blink 182) doing all they can to distance themselves from it, the scene looks like it's about to go the same way nu-metal did twelve months ago.
Pity Simple Plan then, who first cropped up around here about a year ago with the quite amusingly bad "No Pads, No Helmets Just Balls" album and almost certainly now find themselves in a "deliver the goods this time or else" situation (you suspect that having toured with Avril Lavigne can't have done their credibility much good either).
For the record then, "Still Not Getting Any" is a relatively inoffensive collection of chirpy pop-punk singalongs (the picks being "Shut Up" and "Crazy") which will almost certainly appeal to the 12-year-old skate kids who haven't quite got the wherewithal to move on to "American Idiot" just yet. For the rest of us, it won't irritate the hell out of you but there's precious little substance to it for all the shiny singalong harmonies on display here.
Oh well, at least they're not Good Charlotte...
