Three years on and Beachbuggy still haven't given up. The band who seem forever doomed to be known around these parts as "those lads who wear racing gear onstage and have two drummers" are still trawling the toilet circuit.
Unlike a lot of bands though, this is not through their music being bad, it's just that it's so off-kilter that you just sort of know this band are unlikely to ever really seriously trouble the charts. And it's a shame that the British record-buying public doesn't really know about them because when they're on song, Beachbuggy make one hell of a fantastic racket. Tonight's set on a rainy Sunday evening is no exception - "Kicking Back" is the great dragster-racing song that Frank Black never wrote, while newies "Killer B" and especially the "Loser Cop" style ethos of "Easycome Easygo" are quite fantastic slices of revved-up menace.
A shame, like I say, that Beachbuggy are probably destined to remain a secret for the time being. Do yourself a favour - next time they play your local toilet circuit venue, go check 'em out. They deserve at least a bit of recognition.
