Chris T-T (Leeds Vine, 25th September 2003)

It doesn't really feel like the sort of gig you usually get sent to in your capacity as a Vault reviewer, this. The Vine is a new music venue in Leeds which basically consists of the back half of a small-to-medium size pub. Even more strangely, Chris T-T only gets allocated a half-hour set which is really way too short.

But still, take the good points where you can 'cos if you can ignore the time and space restrictions here, this wasn't a bad concert. Chris T-T is a London punk poet who's come to our attention via the rather fine "London Is Sinking" album which has been out for a few weeks now. Tonight, he and his band sound uncannily like a more grown up version of the late great Carter USM with a touch of Tom Robinson style humanism injected on the likes of "Tomorrow Morning" and the chilling "Battersea Bridge Baptism". Chris comes across as a genuinely talented and nice guy and both he and his band really deserve to be playing bigger venues and be given longer sets than this. One hopes that next time he comes to Leeds it'll be in surroundings that suit his talent a bit better.
