A good five or so years before the Datsuns and the D4 wowed the British public with their none-more-primal garage rock, a group from Scandinavia were doing something very very similar. But it's only now with their Australian proteges making some chart headway that the Hellacopters appear to be getting the respect they deserve.
This is pure undiluted blooze rawk 'n' rawwwwlll (sic) the way it was meant to be and as Nick Royale and co crash in with a frenetic blast through "By The Grace Of God", it's a truly soul-cleansing experience.
Based around Royale and fellow six-stringer Robert Dahlqvist's ability to seemingly pluck razor-sharp Zep riffs out of the air at will, the Hellacopters shred tonight with the highlights being a brilliant one-two run through "Hopeless Case Of A Kid In Denial" and "Baby Borderline" off their excellent "High Visibility" album.
Enough, I would say, to hopefully prompt a public enquiry as to why great rock like this isn't in the Top 40 while self-pitying bores like Linkin Park are. Now there's one for you to chew over boys 'n' girls.
