Well, if Ciaran McFeely (aka Simple Kid) was trying to get some decent publicity he's certainly got the right support acts on this tour - both of them genuinely have to be two of the worst bands it's ever been my misfortune to see. Happily, the trace of their names appears to have been erased from my memory but the first one sounded like an absolutely dire version of the Pixies while the second were basically a piss-poor version of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs with a bloke on vocals. Not good.
Which makes Simple Kid's down-to-earth everyday musings and solid electronic backing at least sound a bit more palatable than usual. Okay so it's not exactly world-igniting stuff but it'd be a cold heart indeed that couldn't raise a wry chuckle to the country and western pastiche of "Truck On" or the chirpy "Average Man" and "I Am Rock".
It's far from the best night out I've ever had, let there be no doubt, but at least Simple Kid ensure that you go home with a smile on your face at the end of the evening and you can't ask for much more than that.
