I since have lived in Llandudno, Colwyn Bay, Beaconsfield, High Wycombe and most recently Chester where I was living for 7 years. Life has been kind to me and I've enjoyed meeting people and working in different places.
Most of my time I've been working in Hotels either managing or supervising restaurants. I guess it's the ideal
environment for which to travel as there was
always allot of money that could be made and the social aspect of that kind of
work is always good.
Still hotels and food never really interested me, but changing career is so
difficult as it takes so much time and money, so for a while I felt I was in a
rut.
My last two years in Chester I got my act together and attended Chester
college full time (98-2000) were I studied various aspects of computing, both
hardware, software and programming. I absolutely loved it, it was heaven.
Even now I find it hard to believe I'm getting paid good money for doing what I
love.
College did me well and
it was nice to be mixing with people who like myself had
a passion for the IT industry. I never wanted to leave college as I made good
friends there and you tend to get drawn into the student way of life.
I recently moved to Reading in March 2001 to start work at Nortel Networks
as a 2nd line support Engineer were unfortunately my contract ended in September.
The actual moving was quite difficult, besides the cost, there was the aspect of
not knowing many people down here. Also my sister and her family live in Chester
so with being there for seven years I'd watched her young children grow up, so
leaving them all was quite difficult. With hindsight I've made some bad
decisions earlier on in life but at the time I thought it was for the best .
I do find to get where you want in life you always need to make sacrifices and
take chances, and this move has well paid off for me as I'm right on track to
were I want to be.
I'm now working at a software development company called Hummingbird as a user and network support engineer. I enjoy it there as there is so much to learn and do ( Ok you think I'm sad! ) plus I can pick up new skills which I've never covered before.
I guess I'm now waiting take off on my travels. Hopefully a month in Aus when I can get the cash together as I do like that part of the world and the people. Still I think I'm a lot more career minded now than I once was.
