About us…
EUROPE
COMPENDIUM is under an on-going process of construction. It intends to bring under one common roof information relating to countries covered by a geographic area recognised by the Council of Europe. The lay-out is a cultural-political mix of elements showing the roots of several countries within Europe. This information is made to correspond to the ethnic and linguistic realities of nation-states by their names as now known.
The order of references primarily set out relates to the ethnicity, population, language, constitution and government of most nation-states. A glossary reference is also made to a variety of subjects, including where the information about nation-states is found.
A section entitled Articles is an open forum on any concept expounded on site and an electronic melting pot for the cross breeding of ideas. With a growing vision of greater union the world over and the reverse movement of countries splitting up, the continent of Europe is not to be excluded.
It is to this end that reference is made to constitutions and governments on the country page and the inclusion of a weblog about each country with an aim to enhance contacts between users. As things stand it is very essential to have an open debate on the form any federation, or the subdivision or local government of countries within a federal system for that matter, should take. To do this we cannot omit keeping in mind the ethnic and linguistic realities of peoples and the current set-up of democratic governments.
The future interpretation of democracy and our present understanding of good government may yet have to be revised. Other than regional federation, ideas verge on the possible formation of a major world government made up of groupings of regional federations in turn subdivided into ever smaller national or city states. The global village idea is here to stay. All it now needs is fleshing out.
So we wish you good reading and interaction with this site which I hope will evolve in geometric progression with the ideas put to it by visitors.
This site is edited from Malta.
