Education

Kilmarnock has a number of primary educational teaching astablishments and four secondary education teaching establishments and a college. The secondary schools are:
Kilmarnock Academy, which is the oldest, established in 1807.
St Josephs Academy
Grange Academy, which opened in 1967.
James Hamilton Academy, which was originally located off London Road.
James Hamilton Academy moved to its new location in New Farm Loch in 1977.

Kilmarnock Academy

Kilmarnock Academy was established in 1807. It has been situated in various places since this time. In 1875 it was opened in North Hamilton Street. The present Kilmarnock Academy building, pictured above, which is at Braeside opened in 1897. There has been various changes made to the buildings over the years. The pictured building was extended in 1926 and then another building was added in the 1960's.






'The Tech'

Technical College

The Technical School, which was situated in Elmbank Drive was opened in 1909. It was known as 'The Tech'. It was initially used for science laboratories. This later became part of the Kilmarnock Academy. Today the building pictured above is empty and no longer used.

Kilmarnock College

Kilmarnock College which is situated in Holehouse Road was opened in 1966.
Today Kilmarnock College offers a wide range of courses which are available to students of all ages. There is also a large variety of evening classes available.
