They first met in Willow's wicca group. Tara first came onto our screens in Hush, but presumably they actually met in Wild at heart when Willow went to the wicca groups orientation. From the first time their hands touched there was magic in the air.
Willow felt that she needed to keep
Tara a secret from the Scooby's. She explained to Tara that she just wanted
something that wasn't about slaying but was hers. Tara replied:
Tara: I am
you know
Willow: what?
Tara: yours.
As Willow and Buffy's lives drifted apart, Willow spent more and more time with Tara doing spells. However after Tara sabotages a locating demon spell, it was obvious she was hiding something from Willow.
When Willow finally felt it was time to introduce Tara and Buffy Faith had stolen her body. It was Faith that first noticed that Willow wasn't driving stick anymore, while Tara realised that Buffy wasn't Buffy
Willow had now introduced Tara to the gang but had not told them about their 'special' relationship. Many awkward moments followed as they were no longer always alone.
Their relationship took a step forward when Willow trusted Tara to be her anchor onto this plane so she could find out what had happened to Buffy.
Willow was faced with a decision, torn between her two loves she went to Buffy for advice. As Buffy was coming to terms with Willow's sexuality, Oz had made the connection between the two wiccas, overcome with jealousy he turned into his werewolf self, the initiative coming to Tara's rescue just in time.
After rescuing Oz and saying goodby

to Oz, Willow went to see Tara:
Tara: it's ok, you should be with the one you
love
Willow: I am
And they were finally an official couple. Although it wasn't until a scooby fight in 'the Yoko factor' that Willow came out to the rest of the gang.
As Willow had finally got her life
back on track and found happiness with Tara, Oz suddenly came crashing back
into town.
